Abstract:Through making a brief comment on the relationship between the culture studies and translation, the essay contrasts the cultural differences by analyzing the character rang让 between Western countries , especially America and China. The Chinese character rang让is full of cultural elements. However, the meanings of the character are far more than what “let” comprises. Articles concerning the English translations of the character mostly focus on related grammar. The author of this thesis has yet to find one that deals with the subject in light of cultural compassion. As translation and culture cannot exist apart from the other, the author intends to provide a view of cultural elements through the study of translations. In this thesis, the author tries to make the readers understand some culture differences between China and western countries. It is the author’s hope that the reader may derive from the examples in the thesis and comparisons insights into the two rang 让’s cultures.

摘要:通过作出对文化和翻译关系的简要看法，此文对西方国家，特别是美国和中国的文化进行比较，中文的“让”字充满了文化元素。“让”英译的相关文献多注重语法的探讨，此文作者尚未发现有文化方面的研究。翻译与文化的紧密联系使得两者无法独立于对方而存在，因此作者试图让读者理解中西方让文化的差异，作者希望读者能通过本文中的例子来获得来自两种不同文化的启示。
