Abstract:Chinese students have learned English for many years, but their communication skills in English are not satisfactory even if many of them have passed College English Test Band 4 or Band 6. This paper analyzes the factors which make an impact on college oral English teaching from the following aspects: the teaching syllabus, tests, and teachers; not to put the teaching theory into practice, not to diversify the teaching methods, not to solve the problems positively, etc.

   Besides, this paper also suggests how to develop oral English teaching from the following aspects: learner-centered teaching syllabus, some techniques for oral English teachers, task-based Language Teaching and building up the students’ confidence.

摘要:目前中国大学生的英语口语的普遍状况却是:即使从小学到大学学习英语的时间长达十多年,相当多的学生通过了大学英语四/六级考试,但是哑巴英语的现象普遍存在,口语表达能力仍不能令用人单位满意。本文分析了影响大学口语教学的一些原因:受传统教学模式的制约,测试和教师,还有教学理论在实际中难以实施,枯燥无味的教学方法,学生缺乏自信说英语。

   另外,本文提出几点提高英语口语教学的方案:以老师为主导,学生为中心,并提供一些教学技巧给老师,介绍任务型教学在口语中的实施和建立学生开口说英语的自信心。
