Abstract:The usage of euphemism plays an important part in English communication. This paper is based on the linguistic theories and sociolinguistics theories，tried to make a tentative research into the principles and ways of using English euphemisms in communication in order to cultivate people’s awareness of using English euphemism and make people use English euphemism effectively in communication. Euphemism is widely used in every field, so, for English learners, how to use English euphemism effectively in communication is an important issue, which can deeply improve the quality of English communication. To collect certain data, notes from the articles related to euphemism and the references about euphemism will be used. According to the research of principles and ways of using euphemism in communication, some findings will be found. The findings were:(1) It can let people using English euphemism according to social context. (2) It can greatly make people get acquainted with English culture and raising awareness of cultural. At last, the significance of this study is that it can awaken people’s awareness to the importance of using euphemism and how to use euphemism effectively so that it can minimize hurt to people and to achieve the purpose of effective communicative.

摘要：委婉语的使用在英语交际中扮演着重要的角色。本文从语言学和社会语言学的角度出发，试图研究英语委婉语的使用原则及其策略，以便唤醒人们使用英语委婉语的意识并且使人们在交际中能够有效地使用委婉语。委婉语在各个领域都有广泛的应用，所以作为英语学习者，怎样在交际中有效地运用英语委婉语是一个很重要的问题。作者会参考与委婉语有关的文章和文献，以便收集数据，资料。通过对英语委婉语的使用原则及其策略的研究，将会有以下的成果：（1）可以使人们根据社会语境选择使用委婉语。（2）可以使人们熟悉英语文化和增强文化差异意识。最后，本研究最重要的是可以使人们意识到有效运用英语委婉语的重要性，从而把给对方的伤害降到最低限度，达到成功的交际目的。
