Abstract: American transcendentalism, also called New England Transcendentalism or American Renaissance, represented by Ralph Waldo Emerson, is a literary and philosophical movement, asserting the existence of an ideal spiritual reality that transcends the empirical and scientific and is knowable through intuition. Emerson’s little book, Nature, generally regarded as the Bible of New England Transcendentalism, made a tremendous impact on the intellectual life of America. This paper aims to analyze the views in Nature to show what are transcendentalism and its impact on Romanism literature. Key words: Emerson, transcendentalism, Nature, spirit, Romanism
