ABSTRACT:Equivalence is an ideal stage for English and Chinese translation in maintaining either language beauty or style character. Yet in reality, non-equivalence is always existent. The paper will introduce eight ways of translation practice, by showing related factors affecting equivalence, to prove that dynamic equivalence can be a flexible choice for a relatively good translation. Key words: equivalence; non-equivalence; dynamic equivalence; relatively effective
摘要:英汉翻译的理想境界和原则是语义与风格的完美对等。实践中完美对等很难达到而不对等的情况则时有发生。本文从介绍造成多种不对等的因素入手,对实际翻译例证进行分析说明,认为动态对等是可以逾越障碍达到相对有效传达语义和符合英汉两种语言文化以及语境要求的好办法。 关键词:对等;不对等;动态对等;相对有效
Dynamic equivalence is a better choice for an ideal translation. It refers to the conveyance of source language message to receptor language closely and lively. It consists in reproducing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent of the source language. Translator must strive for dynamic equivalence rather than identity. First of all, translator should convey the message with as little loss or distortion of original as possible. On the basis of transferring the content faithfully, translator needs to make sure that the target language is readable and acceptable. Besides, he must be familiar with the source tongue and strive to grasp the connotative meaning of the original message. Though it is hard to convey the emotion and purpose involved, it is very important. Translator should attach importance not only to aesthetic value, but also to cultural exchange. Translation is just a carrier of Information Bridge. Our final aim is to use this intermedium to communicate and cooperate. In this paper, the non-equivalence in translation has been discussed. It starts with listing the factors of non-equivalence in English ↔ Chinese translation. Considering cultural background, experience of life and mode of thinking, the way of expressing and understanding ideas varies from person to person (Bao Huinan, 2001; Xu Lihua, 2007). Though non-equivalence is inevitable, it is possible to achieve maximum translation equivalence. To illustrate this point, several liberal methods in dynamic translation have been discussed by comparative analysis in the paper.
