It was then that Shinto began to be built for enshrining and worshiping spiritual body. Paying a courtesy call in the shrine thus came into being. As a result,the original meaning of shrine is closely related to clan community's religious practice. It takes a long time for shrine to convert from its collective meaning to individual religious meaning.
