Abstract
This thesis aims to compare the Chinese versions of Jane Eyre respectively translated by Huang Yuanshen and Zhu Qingying. According to Functional Equivalence, the translated version of a novel should basically fulfill the functions of meaning equivalence and style equivalence. Thus, a translation should cover both the surface lexical information, and the deep culture information. In other words, a functional equivalent translation must fit the receptor language and culture in order to make the translated message intelligible and natural to the target language receptors.
The paper is divided into three parts. Introductory part includes the significance and the aim of the study, the basic information about the novel, and the layout of the thesis. The second part which is the most important part of this thesis is the comparison of two different versions of Jane Eyre. At the end, the paper comes to a conclusion.
Key Words: Functional Equivalence Meaning equivalence Style equivalence
