Abstract
Listening is one of the important components of English teaching and learning in the university. It is the ability that university students want to improve most, however, the most difficult one during their four-year study. If we can strengthen and improve students' listening comprehension ability, we may help them enhance their interests in English study. Then they may learn English more autonomously. As a result, we can stimulate listening teaching and learning of college English within the range of non-English majors. Through questionnaires, this thesis tries to analyze the status quo of students’ using listening strategies and autonomous learning and to find out the existing problems so as to find feasible strategies, among which the classification of metacognitive strategies, cognitive strategies and social/affective strategies is the most representative one. The final aim of the thesis is to raise their strategy applying consciousness and to explore how to learn more effectively so as to promote their autonomous learning.

1 Introduction
In the traditional English teaching and learning process, people, more often than not, attach great importance to the ability of reading and writing, neglecting the cultivation of listening. “Deaf English” has become a widespread phenomenon.Nevertheless, among the four basic skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in English study and applications, listening ranks the first. Listening takes up an extremely important role in college English teaching and learning; therefore we should strengthen students' capability of English listening comprehension. With the accelerating pace of economic globalization, today's society has entered an information-based economy era. The demand of future society for foreign language professional talent will be higher and higher. To keep up with the development of the times and keep a foothold in a society full of competition, non-English major students should earnestly study the relevant English listening learning strategies, and repeatedly practice them. According to the questionnaires and the interviews made to the non-English major students, listening is generally the skill they mostly want to improve, however, the hardest one during the four-year university life.
