1. Introduction
Ernest Hemingway is one of the most famous and the most controversial American writers in the modern times. None of the contemporary American writers can match him in terms of achievement and popularity. He has 17 works and has won several grand literary prizes during his life. As a representative of the “lost generation” in the 20th century, Hemingway’s works have a profound effect on those of the writers after him. Hemingway worked as a journalist in Kansas City Star from October 17 to April 30 in 1917. It was during this period that Hemingway’s own writing style began to take shape. In 1954, owning to his unique writing style, Hemingway won the Nobel Prize in Literature. Unfortunately, on July 2, 1962, Hemingway, just like his father, ended his life with a shotgun at his home in Ketchum , Idaho.
The Sun Also Rises, published in 1926, is the most important novel of Hemingway. It tells the story of a group of young American and British people, who travel from Paris to Pamplona in Spain to celebrate the fiesta of Fermin and watch the bullfight. The protagonist Jake is an American veteran of World War I who now works as a journalist in Paris. His friend Cohn, a rich Jewish writer is also an American expatriate. The female protagonist is Brett Ashley. She is a beautiful socialite. She and Jake meet in England during World War I, when Brett treats Jake for a war wound which rendered Jake sex impotent. ,英语毕业论文,英语论文题目 |
