Abstract:
As the most classical popular fictions in British and American literary history, Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind and Daphne du Maurier 's Rebecca had been made into films for many times and impacted generation after generation. The classical characters in these masterpieces have become greatly impressive and immortal. However, the most important key of shaping characters is the vivid garment description. This paper, based on the two novels that mentioned above, is intended to discover the role of garment description on shaping images. My paper will conclude several functions of garment description from the point of costume's culture significance first,英语论文网站,then have a brief introduction of Gone with the Wind and Rebecca, and state the reason why these two works are selected. The main part of this thesis, take Gone with the Wind and Rebecca as examples, will divided the charm of the classical characters with men and ladies and analysis the effect of the garment descriptions.

玛格丽特•米切尔的《飘》和达芙妮杜穆里艾的《蝴蝶梦》是英美文学史上经典的大众小说,经久不衰并被多次搬上荧幕,英语论文范文,作用了一代又一代人。小说中的人物形象更是深入人心,成为文学史上不朽的经典。而著作中细致又优美的服饰描写,正是刻画人物的关键。本文试图从这两部小说出发,探析服饰描写对塑人物形象的重要影响。 本文首先从服饰的文化意义出发,归纳出服饰描写在文学著作中的几点影响,接着简介《飘》和《蝴蝶梦》这两部著作,并陈述选材原因。主体部分从对男女主人公服饰描写对塑造人物形象的影响,揭示经典人物形象的魅力所在。

1. Introduction
At the age of 21, Daphne du Maurier began writing short fictions. Until 1981 when she stopped writing, she produced a large sum of novels, short stories, biographies and so on, among which, the most prominent is Rebecca(1938) which is the masterpiece. It “has been outstanding at six levels of entertainment: as a best-selling novel, a radio series, a Hollywood motion picture, a stage play, a television series and even as an opera.” Moreover, the novel was made into film in 1951 and was taken by the movie master Hitchcock onto the screen, which was widely praised by the public. This movie received almost all of the annual Oscar Award nominations and eleven awards. It is full of mystery and suspense. The mystical and complicated character of Rebecca gives the deep impression to the public.
