米切尔著作《飘》的主人公斯嘉丽和沈从文著作《边城》的主人公翠翠都是中西方文学中重要的主人公。斯嘉丽代表了现代美国南方人的一种执着、抗争的精神，英语论文范文，而翠翠代表的则是中国的朴素单纯接近自然的美。虽然两位主人公生活在完全不同的国度、时代，受着截然不同的教育，她们经历的命运如此不同，但是她们结局却都是等待“明天”的不确定。

Abstract：
Scarlett and Cuicui are two important characters in Western and Chinese literature. Even though they were born in distinguish social backgrounds, having separate education and different personalities, they happened to have similar endings: that is waiting for a better tomorrow.

1. Introduction
1.1 The introduction of Scarlett in Gone With the Wind
In the book Gone with The Wind, the main character Scarlett was depicted as a selfish, strong-minded and stupid girl. She never behaved like a decent lady in her mind as her mother nurtured her to be one. She wanted and liked to be the center of everything and the focus of the town’s boys’ topics. She always enjoyed flirting with all the boys and watching other girls envying about her. It seems she was the only character in the book never changed her personality after the war. She never changed her blind pursuit of love and her greedy demand for money. Scarlett didn’t give up her hope of getting Ashley back from Melanie. She used her beauty to get money and help from Franklin and Rhett. And finally, when she realized that her real love was Rhett, she begged and cried to win his heart back. In the end of the story, Scarlett didn’t get the thing she really wanted and would have to fight for her love again even though she struggled and never yield those years. But her story wasn’t tragic as others due to her strong personalities. Because she pursued and fought for the things she wanted and she wasn’t waiting her fate to determine her life and destiny, no matter what the result might be.
