摘 要
《红与黑》是司汤达于1830年发表的一篇文章，曾被译为多种书名。它是对于主人翁于连不惜通过各种手段——才智和勤奋工作，甚至用欺骗和伪善试图来改变他的社会底层平民的地位，最后却发现出卖的只是自己的一番激情。《红与黑》之所以能不断引起读者尤其是青年读者的共鸣,主要在于司汤达塑造了一个永恒的形象——于连,一个充满激情、处心积虑地为自己的人生筹划的、渴望在险恶的社会环境里获得成功的青年。于连是个具有复杂性格的形象,他既有理想抱负、尊严,但也有妥协的一面,内心充满着矛盾。正因为如此,于连这一形象才超越了时空,具有了普遍性,成为一个存活到今天的丰满的艺术形象,也因此给我们现代年轻人留下深深的启示。本文将从于连的性格特征的角度出发,略论于连形象的现代启示意义。从而使处于物欲横流时代的年轻一代，保持一颗清晰的头脑，树立明确的人生观念。

Abstract
The Red and the Black (Le Rouge et le Noir) is a Stendhal’s masterpiece, published in 1830. The title has been translated into English variously as Scarlet and Black, Red and Black and The Red and the Black. It is set in 1830 and relates a young man’s attempts to rise above his plebeian birth through a combination of talent, hard work, deception and hypocrisy, only to find him betrayed by his own passions. The red and the Black constantly resonates with readers, particularly young readers. Because Stendhal creates a perpetual image— Julien, whose life is full of passion, deliberately to make his plan successful, desiring for the success of the youth community in the sinister environment. The image of Julien is a complex character, who has good vision and dignity, but also compromises to the demon when his vanity is satisfied on the other side, filled with contradictions. Because of this, Julien is of universal significance beyond time and space, becoming a full artistic image that survives to today. And thus gives the modern young people a deep inspiration. This paper will analyze the modern enlightenment from the perspective of Julien’s characters, so that the young generation who live in a materialistic age can keep a clear mind as well as establish a clear concept of life.

1 Introduction
As the first work of France’s critical realism, The Red and the Black of Stendahl is a great success in the arts. It wins all generations of readers’ heart, especially loved by young people.
