Among the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing,reading ranks the first. By reading, students can get a better understandingof the writer's thinking process and get the information of the article.Eventually students put themselves into the real atmosphere ofEnglish-speaking countries and achieve the purpose of improving theirEnglish.

0.2 The Current Situation and Problems of Reading Teaching in Senior High School
On one hand, the author finds it difficult to improve the students'reading ability if following the traditional reading teaching model, whichemploys the past knowledge-based analytical teaching approach, that is tosay, it emphasizes the importance of the explanations of individual words,sentences and grammar without context. It only stops at sentence leveland the fact of the text as a whole text is neglected. As a result, moststudents spend more time in learning English but get unsatisfactoryresults.One the other hand, utilitarian teaching purpose makes it possible forthe English teachers to concentrate on how well and how many studentscan complete reading exercises after class but not the process of readingor the deeper understanding of each text or article they have read. As forour Zhou Nan high school with a history of over one hundred years inChangsha and it is a key school where students have different levels ofEnglish. Graduation rates lead the national college entrance exam everyyear in Hunan province, so our school sets a higher demand for ourteachers. In view of this, colleagues have to assign much homeworkoutside classroom every day, which leads to students' burying themselvesinto fulfilling the reading exercises without practicing the use of textanalysis or other reading strategies. With the development and reform of English teaching in senior highschools, the Ministry of Education, PRC issued a teaching requirementfor Senior High English in 2017. The New National English CurriculumStandard (NECS) for the 21st century put forward new requirements andhigher reading level for high school students, as follows.
