Chapter One Introduction


1.1 Research Background
To improve students’ reading skills is one of the main goals of college English reading course. According to The Requirements of College English Curriculum (2017,2-4), “college students should have the ability to read the basic English articles”,“have the ability to read English materials and English magazines and newspapers with dictionaries, master the main ideas, understand the main facts and relevant details, read the common materials that are relevant to daily life and work, and can use effective reading methods when reading.”Therefore, how to improve the reading level of non- English major students at college is a problem to be solved. The researchers at home and abroad have launched a series of empirical research on this question. Finally, they get a same conclusion that reading strategy training can improve the students’ English reading level. At the same time, the author has found that although these researches emphasize different aspectsof reading strategy, their research objects are mostly undergraduate students, and almost no students of higher vocational college.
1.1探讨背景
为了提高学生的阅读能力是大学英语阅读课程的主要目标之一。根据“大学英语课程教学要求(2017,2-4),”大学生应具备的能力,基本的英语文章阅读“,英语论文,”英语教材和词典的英语杂志和报纸的阅读能力,英语论文题目,掌握主要思路,理解主要事实和有关细节,阅读到日常的生活和工作有关的常见材料,阅读时可以使用有效的阅读措施。“因此,如何提高阅读水平的非英语系的学生在大学要解决的一个问题。在这个问题上,在国内和国外的探讨人员已经推出了一系列的实证探讨。最后,他们得到了相同的结论,阅读策略训练可以提高学生的英语阅读水平。与此同时,笔者发现,虽然这些探讨强调重视有关内容的阅读策略不同,他们的探讨对象大多是在校本科生,高职院校学生几乎没有。

Besides, there are 208 newly-founded undergraduate colleges and universities,most of which are founded by merging several vocational colleges together. Thesenewly-founded undergraduate colleges and universities have become an importantpart of higher education in China, and they are still in the process of self developmentand self improvement. At present, the vocational colleges are facing some majorproblems. Firstly, from the perspective of educational concept, the idea of qualityeducation and innovation education does not penetrate to the teaching, and theteaching still focuses on books. Secondly, the assessments towards students tend topay attention to the understanding and memory of the teaching materials, and theassessment methods can not evaluate students’ learning effect properly. Thirdly, theEnglish reading teaching in vocational colleges and universities is still based on traditional teaching mode, focusing on the teaching of grammar instead of thecultivation of the skills of using English. The traditional teaching method, that is, thebottom-up method can not improve the students’ autonomous learning abilityeffectively, and it can not cultivate their study interest either. This is against themodern teaching idea. As a result, it is an emergency to solve the problem that how tochange the teaching thought of vocational colleges and universities and accept themodern educational concept.


1.2 Significance of the Research
According to modern educational concept, college English teaching shouldfollow the principle--- teach students the methods to analyze and solve problems. Asfor reading teaching, it requires to teach students reading methods and skills, namelythe reading strategies, and to improve students’ reading ability in the end.Some researches at home and abroad are interested in the overall training andteaching language learning strategies, especially reading strategies, and they havebui
