  Reading is one of the most crucial skills of the four fundamental language skills (listening, speaking,reading and writing). In China, reading is the primary way for people to improve their English proficiency.For Chinese students, English is learned as a foreign language (EFL), and reading is by far the mostsignificant method to learn English. As a basic skill for EFL students, reading serves a vital function ingeneral English proficiency. Furthermore, it is necessary to improve the learners’ competency in Englishreading for both academic and occupational success.In China, English is a compulsory course for all the university or college students, one of the primarytargets is to improve learners’ English reading proficiency. The main assignment of teaching reading is tocultivate reading skills availably. Nevertheless, different students have quite different reading levels becauseof personal reasons, such as the age, gender, interest, culture background, etc. Therefore, reading andteaching reading are a quite complicated process (Zhu Chun,英语论文英语论文,2017). Besides, in second language teachingand learning circumstance for academic goal, particularly in an institution of higher education and otherprograms that extensive use of academic materials written in English, reading is of prime importance. Insimple terms, without stable reading proficiency, the EFL learners are incapable of reading effectively andcannot compete with the native English-speaking counterparts. Either the test at home or the proficiency testat abroad, reading always plays an important role. It turns out that reading ability has been identified as one ofthe primary criterion of learners’ language proficiency. This is a fact universally recognized that thesuccessful second language reading is important to both academic and a good foundation for other three basicskills (listening, speaking and writing). With strengthened reading skills, ESL/EFL readers will make greaterprogress and attain greater development in all academic areas (Anderson, 1999). Consequently, readingeffectively in second language learning is vital important. How to enhance learners’ reading skills isgradually aroused notice by researchers and teachers.In the early 1970s, the focus began to shift from how to teach English to how learners study English.Furthermore, the researchers began to probe into the differences among learners for the sake of understandinghow learners are affected by numerous factors such as: age, aptitude, personality, cognitive styles, learningstrategies, and so on. Among these elements, learning strategies gained wide attention from researchers. Inthe real reading situation, the great major of students have felt that they always cannot reach their readingproficiency to an ideal level though plenty of time and energy spend in making up their defects. Therefore,researchers have attempted to find out the reason that the learners have difficulties in English readingalthough learning English many years. The overriding reason is that the learners cannot integrate readingstrategy proficiently into the reading process.
