The main function of language is to communicate. Writing is an indispensablepart in communication, through which we can express our feelings and exchange ourthoughts. Many researchers and scholars have placed an emphasis on writing. Intheir researches, Ding Wangdao (1997) comes up with the idea that writing plays animportant and irreplaceable function in English learning. Wang Chuming in hisworks “the length Approach to ELT” advocates improving learners’ Englishproficiency through writing. He claims “write to learn” instead of “learn to write”. InEnglish teaching, writing can show students’ ability in comprehensive languageapplication. Whether students can convey their ideas and thoughts with the help oflearned knowledge and skills can be seen from their writings. This reveals thatwriting has been placed in a more and more important position. Important as writingis, but the situation of English writing teaching in senior high school is far fromsatisfactory. As one of the four basic language skills, English writing has been adilemma in foreign language teaching. For most Chinese students, completing afluent, accurate and coherent writing in English in limited time is anything but easy.In Chinese students’ eyes, writing is the most difficult skill to acquire, whichinvolves grasping a large vocabulary, organizing discourse as well as internalizingwhat you have learned and then outputting your discourse accurately. This is a muchmore complex and demanding task. As a result, quantities of students find it difficultwriting a composition, many of whom are obliged to write to cope with exams orhomework.

In 2017, there was a reform in NMET in Guangdong province. The writing partis composed of “English Basic Writing” and “Reading and Writing Task”. Inaddition, the writing score is increased to 40 points from the original 25 points, occupying over 1/5 of the whole paper’s score and Basic Writing accounts for 15points. Meanwhile, the coherence in discourse is also tested. Thecharacteristics of “English Basic Writing” can be summarized as follows. Taking the significance of writing and problemsemerging in senior high school students’ writing into consideration, the author aimsto apply lexical approach to writing teaching to improve students’ writingcompetence ,英语毕业论文,英语论文题目
