本文主要从词汇语用学角度，以中英多义词为基本语料库，对多义词的语用充实现象即语用收缩和语用扩充进行探讨。多义词的语用充实是指在特定语境下，对话语中的多义词含义的语用推理过程，主要包括语用扩充和语用收缩。

1.1 Purposes of the Study探讨目的
第一章主要是介绍，简要的介绍了本文探讨的H的，意义，措施和语料收集以及对词汇语用学的简要介绍。Lexical pragmatics is a new branch of pragmatics developing fast in recent years.The concept of “lexical pragmatics" was first proposed by German Professor Blunterin his Semantic Magazine in 1998. He takes semantic restriction in the process oflanguage use as its research subject. Lexical pragmatics connects cognition withpragmatics and integrates many subjects such as semantics, pragmatics and cognitivelinguistics. Just as Wilson said (2017) “The goal of lexical pragmatics is to accountfor the fact that the concept communicated by use of a word often differs from theconcept encoded.”" I The comprehension of word meanings especially the meaning ofpolysemes is a process of pragmatic enrichment including pragmatic narrowing andpragmatic broadening. Therefore, the use and understanding of word meanings arebased on the context and they are pragmatic and cognitive issues but not simply theresearch of semantic domain.This paper takes English and Chinese polysemes as its language materials andtries to focus on the pragmatic enrichment of polysemy from the perspective oflexical pragmatics. This research illustrates the defaults with structural semantics andprototypical semantics' interpretations on polysemy, trying to account for thepragmatic enrichment of polysemy from lexical pragmatics perspective.
1.2 Significance of the Study探讨意义
In the daily communications, many expressions and structures often convey theinformation which isn't the encoded meaning or literal meaning but also differs fromits prototypical meaning or prototypical concept. In the choice and use of language,people create new words, compound new words, or directly borrow the words andusages from other languages. In the previous study, many professors study the meanings of polysemes from the perspective of structural semantics and prototypicalsemantics. This paper will adopt a new approach and probe into pragmaticenrichment process including narrowing and broadening of polysemous wordmeanings from the perspective of lexical pragmatics. This paper hopes to facilitatepeople to understand the intention of the speaker better and have a successfulcommunication. It's very significant to study how people use and understand themeaning of polysemous words in specific context of daily communication and it'salso helpful to reveal the cognitive inferential mechanism and model of people.
1.3 Research Methodology and Data Collection探讨措施论和数据收集
This paper will adopt an interpretative approach and give many examples toillustrate the pragmatic enrichment process.
