Introduction English Reading is one of themostessential courses which aims to help English majors to develop language skills. It helps to develop students’ability to think logically in English and itplays an important role in improving students’language ability as a whole. However, in the reading teaching of college English majors, phenomenon like“High Input, Low Output” still can be observed in English teaching. So in this paper thewriter tries to introduce a new reading teaching model which is effective to solve the problems students encounter in theirEnglish reading study. Ⅱ. Problem s in English majors’reading class In the teaching of English Reading of English majors, the writer has noticed that students commonly have the following problems. Firstly, many students have formed some bad reading habits beforehandwhich may slow down their reading speed. Secondly, most students have notthe rightunderstanding ofreading objectiveswhich is an obstacle for them to become efficient readers of English. Thirdly, a lot of students have little or no extracurricular reading practice which can nothelp them enrich themselveswith differentcultural background knowledge. Lastly, lacking background knowledge of the target language also prevent them from becoming a good reader. Ⅲ. A brief introduction of comprehensive reading teaching model and its practical use at the pre-reading stage 1. Comprehensive Reading TeachingModel takes Interactive Theory, Schema Theory and Cooperative Learning Theory as its theoretical background and is mainly based onTaskTeachingTheory, being amodel which can be used in English reading teaching in combination with the teachers’real teaching experience. 2.The practical use at the pre-reading stage of reading lessons for English majors. it is important for teachers to design concrete specific reading tasks which can help students develop their ability to employ the right reading strategy and skills skillfully to read effectively in English. So teachers ought to strengthen their own understanding of linguistic and thus guide their teaching, making students realize thatone of the objectives of language learning is to be able to communicate effectively using English in certain language circumstances. Secondly choosing suitable coursebooks and supplementary materials can provide students chances to read various kind of materials with different writing styles and enrich students’background knowledge of English-speaking countries.
