TheEnglish Curriculum Requirements in middle schools, which requires thatteachers should try to develop the students' ability of learning Englishautonomously and intrigue the students' learning interest, were issued bythe Ministry of Education in 2017, because it is the important pointrelating to the success of the teaching reform in middle schools.It's well-known that there will be more and more information in the21st century, only those who are good at searching and utilizing theabundant information resources, the latest technique and knowledge willbe badly needed. As one of the most important carriers of information andcommunication, English will play an important role in the modern society. It is critical for teachers to cultivate talented persons who are fluent inEnglish and possess the ability to leam professional knowledgeautonomously. However, due to certain social and educational reasons,most passive attitudes towards learning are adopted by most of ourstudents. Although our students have a strong sense of learningIresponsibility, some of them hardly ever know how they could do withoutteachers' direct instruction.In order to be suitable for the present situation and development ofthe society and education, the teaching method in English class should berapidly changed. Many experts have focused on autonomy in Englishteaching and tried to use effective method to help realize the aim, whichcan make students think, learn, and behave independently in English. It isnot surprising that Leamer-centered Teaching Plan (LCTP) has beenintroduced in English class. In this way, students could not only dependon their teachers, they will get knowledge by thinking, discussing anddoing with group members or by themselves. The aim of using LCTPmethod is trying to know how to leam autonomously and developgradually. The students could make progress in the exploration andimplementation under the concept of autonomous learning.In China, most researches on self-learning have been done in seniorhigh school rather than in junior middle school. This kind of conceptalways misleads us that only the adults and well-developed teenagerscould study autonomously, and it is not suitable for the students in juniormiddle school. However, there are enough empirical evidences to showthat self-learning could help teenagers to develop their creativity andinnovation and meet the needs of the formal education, that is, classroomlearning and teaching. A new kind of teaching method in classroomlearning and teaching has been raised. Most researches have been done onsubjects like mathematics, physics and biology. This always gives us amisunderstanding that LCTP method is only fit for the subjects on science.As a matter of fact, some of the experienced English teachers haveutilized LCTP method in their English class and have made greatprogress.This paper aims to show the efficiency on cultivating the students'self-leaming ability by using LCTP method.
