  English is a native language for many countries. For senior high students in China, English is asecond language. When learning a new language, one of the most difficult aspects is the pronunciation.“The basic skill to learn English is the pronunciation. To master English pronunciation, imitation is notalone, and with the guidance of scientific knowledge to English phonetics.” (GuiCankun, 1985) “To speakany language a person must know nearly 100%of its phonetics, while only 50-90% of its grammar and1%of the vocabulary may be sufficient.” (Gimson A.C. , 2017)In the early 1970s year, resulting from the development of the communicative English approach,which emphasizes the communicative function of a language as long as it can achieve communicativepurposes. This makes quite a lot of English teachers do not attach much importance to the Englishpronunciation teaching, thus reducing the importance of English pronunciation. English pronunciation isparticularly important in communication; pronunciation mistakes not only increase communicationdifficulty, but often affect the effective communication.In China, most Chinese learners cannot communicate with foreigners freely after several years’learning of English.  They can get high scores in the English examinations. But when in daily life, theycannot understand the foreigners completely and the foreigners cannot understand them either.So the author makes a research into the English pronunciation in senior high school classes. Firstthrough the questionnaire and classroom observation, we can learn the present situation of Englishpronunciation of senior high school students and know about the problems existed; Followed by teachersand students to do the research to figure out their real problems for English pronunciation; Finally, theauthor puts forward some reasonable suggestions on how to improve and enhance the learning abilities ofEnglish pronunciation in high school according to the results of analysis. This research is expected to havesome practical use for the second language teachers and the second language learners who are interested inimproving the teaching and learning of English pronunciation.

  This research aims at looking into learners’ pronunciation problems in the process of learningEnglish as a second language by means of random sampling, questionnaires, recording and observation,and tries to explore the main causes and suggest implications for the teaching and learning of pronunciationin senior high schools in China.The research is mainly a descriptive analysis based on random sampling, questionnaire, recordingand observation. And the research objectives are:(1) To find out the major problems with the English pronunciation of senior high school students.(2) To find the ways that can account for the pronunciation problems committed by the students.
