1.1 Motivations of the Study

However，it proves that writing skills are the mostchallenging one to acquire. In Chinese senior middle schools, students are merely good at takingtests and expert in learning grammar. They often assume the text produced will naturally be agood one if they write grammatically correct sentences. But they seldom grasp the cohesive skills, which also play an important role inEnglish writing. Thefive writing abilities are spelling ability, vocabulary ability, and the ability of punctuation,grammar and discourse. And also, they place more stress than usual on ideas, sentence structure,language and, especially, the organization and cohesion of composition.
