1.1 Motivations of the Study

Therefore, how to improve students'writing skills has become one of the major problems for teachers of English in China, especiallyfor the teachers in senior middle school. However,it proves that writing skills are the mostchallenging one to acquire. In Chinese senior middle schools, students are merely good at takingtests and expert in learning grammar. They often assume the text produced will naturally be agood one if they write grammatically correct sentences. If they are required to revise theirwritings,英语论文题目,they are most likely to correct the grammatical errors within sentences, which can beeasily corrected. But they seldom grasp the cohesive skills, which also play an important role inEnglish writing. Inorder to gradually cultivate the ability of writing and describe the quality of students'compositions,the English experts and educators set up nine levels for five writing abilities. Thefive writing abilities are spelling ability, vocabulary ability, and the ability of punctuation,grammar and discourse. And also, they place more stress than usual on ideas, sentence structure,language and, especially, the organization and cohesion of composition.
