There is more than one way that people can have perception of the world. While direct experiment can provide more personal feelings and connections, indirect information can offer a more comprehensive image. The media, though mainly as a method to portray the world, is also a tool that people are holding different ideas about. That is the reason that the media is also a thing to be portrayed. For example, the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), an online database belongs to the Amazon which contains thousands of movies and comments. People in need for information about movie can search for this website and get the rankings and comments without even watching it. As people are living a faster life now, few still have the time and the mood to hold a cup of coffee and sit there for three hours watching a movie or a book. Platforms like IMDb are developing rapidly. People want to get more information in shorter period of time. Through these media, they can also learn different opinions about one thing, which helps them to think more thoroughly.

Yet, there is always a “however”. Media portraying media can also bring side effects. People are gradually losing patience and the ability to think. What they “think” is actually referring to what they see. Therefore, the portrayals can’t be fully trusted. The best way to make comment about a thing is to get in touch with it, form your own perspective, then see how other people think about it from different point of view. Just as Nina and Frank indicates in the article Is Amazon the Bully or the Hero, even people with same career and position can have totally opposite view about Amazon. Some get benefit from it sing praises while others hate it from heart. As for us, we are usually the buyer and we evaluate Amazon by the products. The article, however, reminds us that we can also learn how booksellers regard this E-commerce. To form a three-dimension impression about one thing, we need to believe half of the media reflecting the media, and think for ourselves for the other half.
The way that media reflects media can be serious or satiric. Usually formal comments are serious. The author means what he writes. Sometimes, if the author wants to emphasis his points, or want to make it more interesting and more attractive to readers, he can use satire. When the readers get across an idea that is totally against his perspective or expressed in an exaggerated way, try to think in an opposite way. The way Nina Laden expresses in Is Amazon the Bully or the Hero can be regarded as satire. She begins with a fairy tale but everyone understands her hatred to Amazon through this story. In contrast, Frank seriously explains his attitude about Amazon. His words contain more logic while Nina’s contain more personal feelings.
Movies, as a highly accepted way of entertainment, can also be used as a source of information. Movies reflect a lot of aspects of both the real world and the imaginary world. The movie You’ve Got Mail may inspires many young people that true love can also be found on line; The Imitation Game reveals the life of the father of computer who was persecuted because of his sexual orientation; Good Will Hunting calls on people to respect every ordinary man because everyone may be a genius that only in need of opportunity. It is okay to watch a movie only for relax, but good movies will stick into people’s mind and become useful whenever needed.
The media reflecting media is more and more general there days. How to regard them objectively is still under exploring. But there is one thing for sure, that only with thinking ability and the help of media reflecting media can we form a better understanding of the world.
