Britain, as one of the developed countries, did have a very splendid past, particularly from the sixteenth century to the twentieth century when the English colonists spared no effort to advocate the invasion and expansion outside its nation. The British Colonization had an enormous impact on the recent histories in the current world. This will discuss something that ties into the overarching topic of the British colonization.
Among all the countries which were famous for their colonizing history, Britain stood out remarkably, for the reason that it was the biggest colonial country which colonized a considerable number of countries all over the world. Originating from the 16th century, England had successfully boosted its economy and enables the commercial capitalists to have their businesses in, more or less, every part of the world. In the middle of sixteenth century in England, the economic power of this nation and its sea power began to be stronger and stronger. After beating its opponents, it established its own colonial rule. In the year 1600 in India, after being founded, the “East India Company” had got an excellent opportunity to develop itself. In the year 1733, England set up more than 10 colonies in the east coast of North America (Larry E, 1974). During the years from 1630 to 1640, Britain had tried hard and managed to conquer the Saint kitts in the West Indies. Furthermore, during the year from 1757 to the year 1763, the Britain-France war which lasted seven years ended, it was clear that Britain colonized Canada as well as other islands around this country. In addition, England also colonized a vast variety of colonies in Africa. From these figures, we are able to visualize how powerful and might Britain was at that time. There were hardly any country which was powerful enough to avoid being colonized by Britain. It is worthy to mention that in the year 1800, the area of the British colony had covered 1130 square kilometers, which was forty six times as big as its original territory. 46 times larger than its original sphere can express how splendid past that Britain had at that time. There is no denying that everyone at that time would admire the people who lived in England or would like to have a permanent residence in England.
From the sixteenth century to the eighteenth century, British governments had colonized the world for about three hundred years, which helped the development of capitalism in England to a tremendous extent. The merchants in this country originally gained some properties from looting the boats owned by the Spanish and Portugal people (David, 1972). Afterwards, clever as British people, they started to do the slave trade, that is to say, England procured a variety of slaves from Africa and carried them to America waiting for being sold. The economy in America, at that period of time, depended immensely on the cottons. However, plating cottons was considered to be a horrible thing, because this would take farmers a lot of time to look after them. If American businessmen wanted to boost its economy by planting a lot more cottons, it was necessary for them to make the prices of cottons that they planted cheaper or more competitive. However, the payments of farmers were not cheap, on the contrary, it was kinda expensive. It was not possible for American to reduce the price, hence, slavery would definitely help America solve this thorny problem. Slavery was cheap, once they had bought a slave, they could feel free to ask them to do anything that they wanted them to do as long as they could give them some food. Therefore, the prices of cottons can be reduced to some degrees. From this thing, we can see that British was very clever. It is really a good option to colonize so many countries.
What is more, from the year 1803 to the year 1804, England succeeded in colonizing the Marat, and G tucker and the Ganges and Zhu Mu river. These places had enabled England to be the most powerful country in the entire world. Even the America which was also very mighty and powerful could not compete with, not mentioning that Britain had thousands of hundreds of colonies. Additionally, from the year 1843 to the year 1849, British governments had joined forces and conquer India (Morton, 1972). The workforce in Idea had made England become more successfully and richer to some extent.
Last but not least, in the year 1841, to be specific, in 26th January, 1841, Britain had managed to conquer Hong Kong in China. This is very conspicuous that Hong Kong had been given a good chance to develop itself fairly well after being colonized by Britain. Britain also made no stones unturned to help Hong Kong develop its economy. Therefore, we could see how prosperous Hong Kong was.
In a nutshell, Britain was very successful in terms of colonizing countries. And it was also very successful in developing its economic. Moreover, we could see from the history that almost every country which was colonized by Britain had been offered a terrific opportunity to develop themselves and become richer and more powerful. Hence, we could not say that they were not lucky to be conquer. On the contrary, it was their luck to be colonized by England.
