The objective of this study is to how ‘role' and ‘body’ function in order to identify the course of restoration for self-identity. The course of restoration for self-identity has been analyzed since only those with solid self-identity were able to form a close relationship as a psycho-social development task in the early adulthood. I, as a researcher, have chosen 『A Doll's House』by Henrik Ibsen as a tool for analysis. However, since Nora was main character in the play, restoration and changes of self-identity have been identified through the ‘role' that made it feasible to confirm the social relationship among characters. In addition, course of changes in the ‘body' has been identified as to how body language was independently changed in social relationship based on the embodiment of the main character, Nora, by utilizing 『A Doll's House』performed in Dong Soong Art Center in April, 2016, and directed by Hyunok Song. First of all, Nora focused on playing a role of ‘obedient wife' and ‘good wife' to create a happy home as a ‘disguised person' in the first part. It represents that Nora was in a status of confusion and loss of self-identity without recognizing the ‘crisis' yet. In addition, roles of ‘Helmer,' ‘Doctor Rank,' ‘Mrs. Linde,' and ‘Anne-Marie' were confirmed as helpers. If connecting the role of ‘disguised person' of Nora to the body, it was more of ‘trained body' indicated by Frank and also a standardized body disconnected with communication with others as ‘body as others' and ‘body as persona' told by Johnson to function as an image that was shown to others. In the second part, Nora kept on serving as a role of ‘disguised person' in the relationship with Helmer. When she was with doctor Rank, her role was to be a ‘lover' and ‘seductress.' Such roles were played since doctor Rank was the biggest helper and was also related to ‘death.' However, due to Krogstad, she reached to the status of identity moratorium for experiencing and recognizing ‘crisis' again. However, it was also confirmed that she was in a transition of actively ‘performing' her role. However, changes of body were confirmed in the <Image - 13>. Nora started recognizing how Helmer was not a helper but an obstructer and not automatically disguising with her gestures. In addition, Nora's body was changed before and after dancing the ‘tarantella.' She was close to death as she thought of committing suicide. However, after dancing the ‘tarantella,' she ended up starting to restore the identity. At this time, Nora's body was expressed with ‘body as others,' ‘body as persona,' ‘body as desire,' and ‘existing body as others' as four categories classified on the body through the flow of embodiment by Johnson. This confirmed that self-identity was the most restored to freely deal with body. In the third part, Nora did not play the role of ‘disguised person' but extended the role as ‘liberalized wife,' ‘wise person,' and ‘survivor.' This confirmed that she was beyond the role of ‘painful daughter' and ‘painful wife' but started restoring the potential role and accurately recognizing how Helmer was not a helper but an obstructer. Nora expressed in the body was changed to a true movement and also to ‘existing body as others' restored with independence instead of isolated body that passively responded to Helmer any more. This is the body embodied as ‘body of communication' by Frank and also as a body recognized to be competent. Therefore, as it was closely related to the objective of this study for cultivating the potential role from restoration of independence of isolated body, it was confirmed to extend the communication with others and become a pivotal element for restoration of self-identity. This means that restoration of solid self-identity is of mature growth embracing humans beyond the formation of close relationship with others as a social being.
