오늘날 급변하는 사회에서 소비자들은 이전보다 더욱 세련되고 개성적인 디자인을 찾게 되었으며 무료한 일상 속에서의 탈출구를 찾으려는 크고 작은 시도들이 보이기 시작하였다. 패션은 그 시도의 한 주축으로 자아실현의 만족을 가져다주며 동시에 지루한 삶 속에 즐거움을 만들어 준다. 키치패션은 이러한 현대사회에서 새롭고 신선한 디자인으로 표현되고 있다.
본 연구에서는 키치의 이론적 배경을 분석하고 키치패션에 나타난 형태, 소재, 색상, 장식, 문양의 조형적 요소를 분석한 후 그 안에 나타나는 키치의 조형적 특성 다섯가지 과장성, 부적합성, 유희성, 쾌락성, 저항성을 도출하여 이것을 토대로 국내패션에 나타난 키치패션을 고찰하였다.
키치패션의 조형적 요소는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 형태적 요소는 과장되고 에로틱한 실루엣과 착장 방법의 파괴, 왜곡, 변형 및 중첩적 형태로 나타난다. 둘째, 소재적 요소는 비예술적이고 값싼 소재, 선정적인 시스루의 소재, 모방 소재의 사용으로 나타난다. 셋째, 색상적 요소는 색상의 과잉사용, 채도가 높은 원색의 사용 그리고 강조배색과 보색배색 또는 부조화적 색상 등으로 나타난다. 넷째, 장식적 요소는 조잡하고 과도한 형식과 유치하고 값싼 과잉장식, 유아적 오브제의 사용으로 나타난다. 다섯째, 문양적 요소는 만화나 낙서 기법의 등의 팝아트적 문양과 유아적 모티브 및 조잡하고 천박한 문양의 사용 등으로 나타난다.
키치패션에 나타난 다섯 가지 조형적 요소를 분석하여 키치패션에 나타난 조형적 특성을 도출해 낼 수 있다. 여기서 국내패션에 나타난 조형적 특성은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 키치패션은 과장된 형태와 과도한 장식 그리고 축적과 수집을 특징으로 하는 과장성을 보인다. 둘째, 키치패션은 왜곡된 형태와 기존 착용법과 배열의 부적절성, 심미성과 기능성의 부적절성을 특징으로 하는 부적합성을 보인다. 셋째, 키치패션은 이질적인 것의 혼합 그리고 유아적 도안과 색채, 상식을 벗어난 키덜트적 아이템을 특징으로 하는 유희성을 보인다. 넷째, 키치패션은 신체 일부를 노출하거나 강조하는 쾌락성을 보인다. 마지막으로 공격적이고 파괴적으로 나타나는 풍자와 값싼 소재의 사용으로 나타나는 모조를 특징으로 하는 저항성을 보인다.
키치는 산업혁명과 대량생산으로 인하여 소외감을 느낀 노동계층 사이에서 발생한 상류층에 대한 반발과 저항의 표현이다. 그러나 포스트모더니즘사회로 오면서 원래의 천박하고 유치한 표현 속에서 일정한 조화를 이루며 세련되고 고급스러운 스타일로 연출되고 있다. 키치는 더 이상 노동자들이 추구하던 싸구려 하위문화가 아닌 고급스럽고 새로운 미적 범주로 자리매김하였으며 하나의 독자적인 예술 분야로서 다양하게 영향력을 끼치고 있다. 이러한 키치는 대중매체의 발달과 함께 국내에 빠른 속도로 전파되고, 많은 디자이너에게 독자적이고 개성 있는 무한한 영감을 제공하고 있다. 이로 인해 다각화되어 가는 소비자의 요구에 부합하는 독창적인 패션 영역으로 성장하고 있다.
본 연구는 이러한 키치패션이 국내패션에 미치는 영향을 고찰함으로서 국내패션의 키치적인 아이디어 발상에 도움을 주고, 나아갈 방향을 모색하며 지속적인 키치패션의 개발 및 발전에 도움이 되고자 한다. 더불어 해외패션과 차별화 되는 국내의 독창적인 키치패션을 정립하는데 기여하며, 이에 따른 후속연구가 다양하게 이루어지길 기대한다.

Today, in the rapidly changing society, consumers came to look for more stylish and unique design than before and began to show big and small attempts to find a way out of dull ordinariness. Fashion is a pivot of those attempts, which bring about self-satisfaction and at the same time, produce a pleasure in boring life. Kitsch fashion is expressed by new and fresh designs in this modern society.
This study analyzes the theoretical background of kitsch, analyzes the figurative elements of the forms, materials, colors, decorations, and patterns in kitsch fashion, draws five figurative features of kitsch, such as exaggeration, incongruity, playfulness, pleasure, and resistance, and discusses kitsch fashion based on them.
Figurative elements of kitsch fashion are as follows. First, the formative elements appear in exaggerated and erotic silhouettes and the destruction, distortion, deformation and overlapping in the mode of wearing. Second, material elements appear in non-artistic and cheap materials, suggestive see-through materials, and the use of imitation materials. Third, the color elements appear in the excessive use of colors, the use of primary colors with a high chroma, and accent colors, complementary colors, and mismatch colors. Fourth, decorative elements appear in low-grade and excessive forms, immature and cheap excessive decorations, and the use of childish objet. Fifth, pattern elements appear in pop art patterns such as cartoon and graffiti techniques, childish motifs and the use of low-grade and superficial patterns.
Figurative characteristics of kitsch fashion can be drawn by analyzing the five figurative elements that appear in kitsch fashion. The figurative characteristics appearing in the domestic fashion in this study are summarized as follows:
First, kitsch fashion shows exaggeration characterized by exaggerated forms, excessive decorations, and accumulation and acquisition. Second, kitsch fashion shows incongruity characterized by distorted forms, the inadequacy of wearing and arrangement as compared to the existing ones, and the inadequacy of aesthetic impression and functionality. Third, kitsch fashion shows playfulness characterized by the mix of heterogeneous things, childish designs and colors, and kidult items beyond common sense. Fourth, kitsch fashion shows pleasure of exposing or emphasizing parts of the body. Lastly, it shows resistance characterized by aggressive and destructive sarcasm and the imitation appearing in the use of cheap materials.
Kitsch is a manifestation of repulsion and resistance against the upper class, which occurred among the labor class that felt a sense of alienation due to the Industrial Revolution and mass production. However, entering the post-modern society, it is presented in sophisticated and luxurious styles, forming a certain harmony by its original superficial and childish expressions. Kitsch is no longer cheap sub-culture workers pursued, but settled as a luxurious and new aesthetic category and has a wide range of influence as one of the unique artistic disciplines. This kitsch is spreading in South Korea with the development of mass media and provides many designers with independent and unconventional infinite inspirations. Accordingly, it is growing up as an independent area of fashion, corresponding to the diversifying consumers' needs.
This study attempted to help the domestic fashion conceive kitsch ideas by examining the impact of kitsch fashion on the domestic fashion, seek a direction, and help continuous development and evolution of kitsch fashion. In addition, hopefully, this study will contribute to establishing the original domestic kitsch fashion differentiated from overseas fashion, and accordingly, various follow-up studies will be conducted.
