Satire is defined as "Semantic work of intentional sequencing" since in terms of contents, unlike the other forms of comedy, satire has a clear purpose; to attack immoral realities or targets and to correct them. In terms of forms, it is perceived as one of the sub-concepts of joke along with humor, irony, wit and parody. The reason why satire is considered as such is because of its way of bypassing criticism of "bad" characters laughing off even harsh criticism against them, and because main ideas satire writers try to convey is expressed in hidden forms. Therefore, satire not only has to contain substantive definition in formal definition but also is bound to have the effect of communicating with readers. To maximize the effect, satirists focused on indirect mode, carefully designed technique and a medium conveying them and they found all of them in a form of satire.

Mixture of forms is only the start. It can also emerge as diverse styles depending on artistic ways of expression based on main themes authors try to convey in their works. chae ?s works are realized in forms of satiristic irony, satiristic humor, satiristic parody, and in the process, he turned his attention to narrative styles, which is consistent with his artistic spirits and possibly make possible direct communication withreaders. That testifies to the fact that he was a satirist who recognized the importance of Koreantradition as well as literally effect. Espeically the use of honorific ending in predicative words, combined with the role of speaker, created the effect of satiristic irony. Such an effect can be found in "Chisook"written in first person and "Taepyeong cheonha" in which third-person speaker used honorific endings appeared in predicative words. These narrative methods equals to direct communication between a satire writer and readers(audience) and played a role in giving an ironic twist to the process of recognizing the subject of satire.
Works of chae Man-Sik, mainly parodied classic Pansori-type novels such as "Choon Hyang Jun" and "Heung-Bu?Jeon." Ways of portraying characters in those novels were the targets. But he went further, demonstrating satiristic parody of denouncing bad persons by being sarcastic andmocking them when explaining about them. The use of dialects, proverbs and idioms used in "Ready-made life", "Chisook", and "Taepyeong cheonha" revealed that satiristic parody is not a mere technique but a way of inhering unique Korean tradition rooted in historical recognition and author?s own quest for ways of solving problems in the age of crisis created by breakdown of tradition. This can be viewed, in broader sense, as features of Korean-style satire technique.
chae Man-Sik choose, most of the time, vulgar words to attack characters. And as a balancer to help lessen the tension these words caused, he added some humor and wit. That is well illustrated in a standoff between an old man named Mr. Yun and a boss in "Taepyeong cheonha". Modes of language play and expression in hidden forms of condemning characters by giving them names of animals are chae Man-Sik?s satiristic technique of humor.
Other novels such as "Ready-made life?, "Chisook,"borrowed words contemporary characters used, which helped identify targets of satire. In these novels, Mr. chae demonstrated his satiristic technique of synecdoque. The use of loan words was seen throughout his other novels. Words of Japanese origin were a symbol of ignorance. But on the contrary, when one used the words of western origin, he or she was considered an elite. But satire writers changed their targets according to the characteristics of works, not just made fun of persons unconditionally who used certain loan words frequently without no clear reason.
As such chae Man-Sik demonstrated real forms of satire using narrative stylesas a communication medium. That was a product of his knowledge coming from his naturalbackground, and thorough study on classics, which also contributed to inheriting Korean tradition. From a historical point of view, the fact that he strived to pass the tradition to the younger generations in an age of crisis in tradition, shows his true character.
