오늘날 세계는 교통이 발달되고 각종 통신망을 통해 정치·경제·사회·문화 등 각 분야에 걸쳐 국제적인 교류가 증대되고 있다. 이러한 발달로 세계화·정보화 시대에 많은 나라들은 한 나라만의 독자적인 이익을 도모하기 위해서보다는 상호 이해와 협력을 바탕으로 국가 간에 상호 의존성이 증대되고 있는 실정이다.
한국과 일본은 지정학적으로 가까운 위치에 자리 잡고 있고 역사적으로도 세계 어느 나라보다 밀접한 관계를 유지해 왔다. 특히 각 지역을 단위로 한 정치·경제적 통합이 확산되는 오늘날과 같은 시대에 같은 동북아시아 지역 국가로서의 긴밀한 협력 체제를 구축하기 위해 한·일 양국의 상호 협력과 이해의 필요성은 과거 어느 때보다 높다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 정치·경제·문화의 교류를 통한 국제 관계를 원활히 하고 더욱 원만한 관계를 유지하기 위해서는 서로를 이해할 수 있는 교육의 실천이 필요하다.
본고에서는 일본어를 배우려는 학습자들에게 학습 동기를 일으킬 수 있는 요인들을 일본의 국가적인 위상과 일본어의 효용성, 인류 발전에 이바지한 일본인들로 나누어 고찰하였다. 또한 이러한 요소들로 실제 수업현장에서의 활용지도 및 교수-학습지도안도 함께 모색해 보았다.
각 분야별로 중요한 요소들을 추출하여 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한 국가로서 일본은 아시아 대륙의 동쪽에 길이 3,000㎞에 걸쳐서 활 모양으로 위치한 섬나라로 다양하고 아름다운 지리적 환경을 가진 나라이다. 자국이 일궈낸 역사를 바탕으로 일본의 고유한 문화를 발전시켰으며, 세계 선진공업국으로써 특히 제조업의 각 분야에서 세계적인 지위를 차지하고 있으며 세계 최첨단의 기술을 보유하고 생산량도 뛰어나다. 둘째, 일본어는 전 세계에서 약 1억 3천만 명이 사용하고 있는 언어로, 세계 언어 중 12번째로 사용인구가 많다. 이들 언어 중 상위권에 속하는 언어는 대부분 다민족국가에서 사용하는 언어이거나, 한 언어를 여러 나라에서 사용하는 언어이다. 이와 같은 관점에서 볼 때, 단일국가에서만 사용되는 일본어가 사용 언어 면에서 이러한 위치를 차지한다는 것은 특이한 사실이다. 오늘날 일본의 경제력이 높아지고 각 방면에서 국제적 지위가 향상됨에 따른 국제적 인지가 이를 뒷받침해주고 있다. 또한 우리의 일상생활 속에서 많은 일본어 어휘들을 사용하고 있는데, 대부분의 사람들은 그 어휘가 어느 나라 말인지, 또한 그 뜻은 무엇인지를 제대로 알지 못하고 사용하는 경우가 많다. 따라서 일본어를 학습하면 이러한 면을 극복할 수 있는 좋은 요인이 될 수 있을 것이다. 셋째, 인류발전에 이바지한 일본인들을 살펴본 결과 과학 기술, 문학, 영화 등 일본인들은 다양한 분야에서 활약하고 있었다. 특히 과학 기술 분야는 세계적으로 높이 평가되고 있는 분야로 우리도 많은 인재들을 육성하기 위해서는 그들을 알아야 할 것이다.
본 연구에서는 지나치게 세분된 지식이나 자료가 아닌, 단편적이지만 수업현장에서 학생들에게 일본어 습득의 유용성을 주지시켜줄 수 있는 내용이 무엇인가를 추출해 내는 것으로 연구 범위를 제한하였다. 부족한 점이 많지만 앞으로 보다 더 심도 있는 연구가 이루어져 보다 양질의 자료들을 개발하여 학습자들에게 인지시킴으로써 일본어 교육을 활성화시켜야 할 것으로 생각된다.

With the advanced transportation and communication tools we are living in the environment under the busiest interchange of politics, economy, social affairs and cultural sectors between countries. Korea and Japan is geopolitically close and historically engaged more than any other countries. Mutual cooperation and understanding through exchanging politics, economy and culture is needed more than ever because today the necessity of unions of regional unit is increasing and Korea and Japan is the representative countries of the North East Asia.
This study shows in depth research of 3 factors which bring motivations to students who is going to learn Japanese language. These are status of the country Japan, usefulness of the language and lastly Japanese individuals who had contributed to human progress. In addition the actual lecture case and Professor-lecture directions are introduced in this study.
Important factors of each sector are as follow; First, Japan is a country of islands that is located at the east of Asia with 3,000 Km length shaped as a bow and various and beautiful environments. Japan is a country of a very unique culture based on their historical background and also a country of advanced industry with state of the art technologies of manufacturing and distinguished productivity. Second, Japanese language is being used by 130 million people in the world and the rank is in the 12th. It is interesting to know that highly ranked languages are being used by multi nations or many countries. In this point of view Japanese language is extra ordinary because it has been used for single country. This also can be explained by Japan’s higher status with more economic power and recognition. Also in our daily life we can find that many of Japanese words are being used however in many cases the speaker does not even know meanings and roots of the words. Learning Japanese language will help people enlarge their knowledge for the words. Third, the research showed that there are numerous Japanese individuals playing active roles in different fields as science, literature and movies. Especially the field of science and technology is highly appreciated by rest of the world and this is another reason for us that we should know them better.
This study has been avoiding too detail knowledge of information but simplified for bringing out the usefulness of learning Japanese language for students at the actual spot of lecture. It is promised to revitalize education of Japanese language with more in-depth study and qualitatively better lecture tools in the future.
