This study aims at clarifying the characteristics of Korean language with high-context culture and how to apply them to Korean langauge education. Starting with the necessity of high-context culture education in Korean language education, this study explains the characteristics of Korean high-context culture and its backgrounds on the basis of characteristics of high-context culture suggested by Hall. The characteristics of high-context cultures were investigated through literary works with high-context features. For this investigation, literary works in Korean language & culture textbooks used in 4 institutions, which are the most frequently used domestically, were analysed with the characteristics of high-context culture as a analysis criterion. Literary works such as poems, novels, s were looked into and one work from modern poetry, novels and s respectively, which appears the most frequently on textbooks, was chosen for the investigation for the characteristics of high-context culture. Furthermore, this study suggests the standards of selecting literary works for high-context culture education in Korean langauge education. In the first chapter, the necessity of high-context culture education is suggested and existing relative researches and trends of high-context culture education in Korean language education are explained. In chapter 2, this study looks into the concepts of high-context culture and low-context culture suggested by Edward Hall and clarifies the characteristics of high-context culture in Korean language based on its backgrounds. In chapter 3, the list of works of poetry, novels and s appeared in textbooks in 4 institutions can be found to investigate the high-context culture in Korean language textbooks. On the basis of the characteristics of high-context culture in Korean language explained in chapter 2, one work from modern poetry, novels and s respectively was investigated. As a result, in the frequent works in modern poetry, novels and s, the features of high-context culture in Korean language were not well-represented and the literary works in current textbooks are not qualified for the high-context culture education. Therefore, this study suggests the selection standards for literary works which will be necessary for the high-context culture education. There are not many preceding researches as the high-context culture education is relatively a new research theme, and there were also difficulties in defining the features of high-context culture in Korean language. This study has a significance in the fact that it tries to clarify the features of high-context culture in Korean language and that it proposed the selection standards for the literary works for Korean language textbooks. It is expected that meaningful researches could be produced when the understanding of high-context culture with literary works, not one-sided cultural education, and in-depth investigations on the high-context culture expressions are achieved.

본 연구는 ‘한국어’의 특징을 ‘고맥락 문화’라는 점에서 찾아 이를 한국어 교육에서 어떻게 활용할 것인가에 대해 연구하였다. 먼저 한국어 교육에서 문화교육의 필요성, 고맥락 문화교육의 필요성을 시작으로 홀(Hall)이 밝힌 고맥락 문화의 특징을 기반으로 한국어의 고맥락 문화배경과 한국어의 특징과 부합하는 한국어 고맥락 문화의 특징에 대해 밝혔다. 한국어 고맥락 문화의 특징을 고맥락 문화의 특징이 가장 잘 드러나는 문학작품을 통해 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국어 고맥락 문화의 특징을 분석기준으로 삼아 국내에서 가장 많이 사용되는 한국어 교육 기관 교재 중 4권의 언어·문화 통합교재에 나타나는 문학작품을 분석하였다. 문학을 대표하는 시, 소설, 수필을 중심으로 분석하였고 교재에서 가장 빈번하게 제시된 현대시, 현대소설, 현대수필 각 한 편을 선정하여 한국어 고맥락 문화적 특징이 어떻게 나타나고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 나아가 한국어 교육에서 한국어 고맥락 문화교육을 위한 문학작품의 제시기준을 제안하였다.
