The purpose of this study is to suggest an efficient method of teaching a Korean novel using storytelling on a basis of storytelling methodology with advanced learners of Korean. For this, a modern Korean novel was selected. And this study is based on the premise that literary works should be taught as literature rather than as a means of cultural education or as a functional data of linguistic education. As such, contents of class, structural factors of a story, were set through a theory of storytelling based on the educational benefits of its activities, and an efficient method of learning was devised so that learning contents could have organic relations with learning activities by connecting this with specific storytelling activities. The learning method devised like this was applied to 『Flowing Drum』 by Choi, Ilnam, and then detailed courses of teaching and learning were presented according to the procedure of activities of three stages: before storytelling class, storytelling class and after storytelling class. With this study, it is hoped that foreign Korean learners will be able to improve an ability of understanding, translating and actively analyzing Korean literary works with the internalization of the knowledge of factors comprizing a novel by carrying out storytelling activities themselves.
