This proposes on the Korean writing pedagogy plan using storytelling as a way for Korean learners to naturally and effectively improve their communication skills.
The purpose of this is to improve the writing ability of Korean learners by having the teacher tell the target student audience the Korean story <Dangun Mythology> followed. by a variety of writing activities afterwards.
Storytelling is method which can make student, regardless of their level, interested in learning, create interaction between the storyteller and the listeners actively using their imagination, provide a way of creative activities to be started, and vividly convey situations where language can be used. Combined listening and writing activities are useful for three reasons: learners can study in familiar environment and easily become interested in the language; social and cultural experiences can be shared; learners can recognize their relationships with others in social interactions; students can learn proper language use. It also helps students feel motivated and interested in studying and get rid of their prejudices about foreign language learning.
This uses the process-oriented method which is an inductive approach focusing on the importance of the process of putting thoughts down on ; the progress of going through several stages of revision rather than writing everything down at once; and the gathering of ideas through group activities before writing.
This method can create learner oriented writing pedagogy by giving the students enough time to write, placing importance on the feedback between learners and the teacher and among learners, helping students understand the purpose and process of writing and forming their own writing strategies.
The presented plan has several interesting activities based on <Dangun Mythology> to be done after the storytelling is finished. These are divided into activities to be done before writing, the writing itself, and activities to be done after the writing is finish.
In addition, the proposed teacher-student process was applied to fifth level Korean learner classes on four different occasions. It was noted that, by utilizing various folktale storytelling techniques, we can expect to have an interesting and engaging Korean class.
