Abstract
Despite the importance of the pronunciation in learning a second language, a short time of period is taken for pronunciation training at the beginners’ phase. Most of the preceding studies have targeted only beginners, and pronunciation has been taught as a part of an integrated textbook. Also, the books for pronunciation are not published for every language. It is very difficult for the second language learners to study by themselves. For these reasons, this research studies the development of the pronunciation textbook which focuses on fixing errors based on the mistakes students make so that the learners may correct their pronunciation by themselves.
The research will address as follows:
In chapter 1, the necessity and the method of the research is indicated by introducing the objective of this study and reviewing previous studies. Chapter 2 addresses the principle of Korean language pronunciation textbook development, errors and corrective feedback, and theoretical background by comparing phonologies between Korean and Chinese languages. In chapter 3, the difficulty level of learning Korean language pronunciation for Chinese students is analyzed. The result of the difficulty level is gained through the studies that previously performed experiments on Chinese students’ pronunciation errors are reviewed. With the level of difficulty in order and the result of the advanced studies, pronunciation items are selected, and causes and improvement method are sought. Chapter 4 provides a development method of Korean language pronunciation textbook for Chinese students. In chapter 5, this study is reviewed and problems are discussed.
This study has limitations like the followings. First, since the size of the sample was too small to study the difficulty level of learning pronunciation, the accuracy of the level cannot be guaranteed. Second, suprasegmental phoneme is not studied. Third, the method suggested in this study is not verified through the actual experiment. It is desired that further studies are carried out based on this study to help Chinese students correct their pronunciation.
