The purpose of this study is to analyze current status of cultural education of Korean Literature Study in Taiwan, and to provide learners by creating suitable and efficient syllabus for Korean cultural education. In the first chapter, we disclose he purpose and necessity of this study and review previous studies on Cultural Education and Korean Culture Studies in Taiwan especially on Korean learners. This part also describes the content and method of the study. In Chapter 2, we have researched the close relationship between the language and culture, definition of culture as a theoretical background of this study. Also this suggests the necessity of Korean cultural education in order to support amicable communications among Korean people. Furthermore, we have extracted the range and content of the cultural study, and organized historical backgrounds of Korean language study in Taiwan. In Chapter 3, we discuss about current status of Korean Language Education in Taiwan, especially the current curriculums of Korean Language Education. Along with this, we divided up the courses into two parts - mandatory courses and elective courses – to take a closer look at the current progress of Korean Language Education. We also have analyzed textbooks that are currently in use in Korean Literature courses, Korean Language courses, and Korean Cultural Education courses to suggest new insights. In Chapter 4, we have conducted the survey on 209 Taiwanese students who are currently majoring in Korean Language. The survey asked students the reason why they have selected Korean as their major, the purposes of their study, their opinions on current status of cultural education, their level of satisfaction, and the rankings of ranges and methods of cultural education that they want. We have set the target and objectives of Korean Cultural Education in Taiwan based on the studies and analyzed research data, and we have organized the orders of cultural education content for Korean learners in Taiwan based on different levels of International Standard of Korean Language Education (2011). The then suggests the new study method and curriculums based on topics and content of Cultural Education. These new curriculum was composed of 16 weeks of plans for intermediate Korean learners. This study contains analysis of current curriculum in Taiwan along with analysis of the textbooks. Also, it shows its significance by showing that they have suggested curriculums of Korean Cultural Education for Korean learners in Taiwan based on the demands of the learners. We hope this study will be a great help in understanding the level of communication and cultural understanding of learners in Taiwan.
