Korean and Burmese language are having a lot of similarities to each other. This study wants to find out the differences of using auxiliary verbs in Korean and Burmese through their similarities. The system of auxiliary verbs in Korean and Burmese language is too similar to each other. But, it can not be the same between two languages because there can be several irregularities or differences even in one language by itself. That means there are differences between Korean and Burmese auxiliary verb system even they have the similar system to each other. The purpose of this study is to find out those differences of two languages through "아/어 주다(give)" by using the similarities of auxiliary verb system in Korean and Burmese. And, there is only one study based on auxiliary verb system in Korean and Burmese language even there were several studies of Korean's auxiliary verb system. There is only one study about auxiliary verb system of Korean and Burmese that was written by Myin Myint Maw(2006) and it's main part is about "보다(to look/see)". So, this study will be the first one that talks about auxiliary verb system of Korean and Burmese through "아/어 주다(give)". The order of this study is as below.
In chapter 1, there was the purpose of study, study method and pre-study of this study.
In chapter 2, there was introduction about Burmese language that will contrast with Korean.
In chapter 3, there was a study about the list of auxiliary verbs between Korean and Burmese. Firstly, this study contrasted the list of auxiliary verbs of Korean and Burmese that are listed by the last studies in Korean according to Choi Hae Ju(2003). As result, there are 20 Burmese auxiliary verbs that are similar to Korean among 57 verbs. Secondly, this study contrasted the list of auxiliary verbs of Korean and Burmese that are using in Korean education field according to Choi Hae Ju(2003). As result, there are 24 Burmese auxiliary verbs that are similar to Korean among 74 verbs. Third, this study made the list of auxiliary verbs of Korean and Burmese that are similar to each other. As result, there are 24 similar auxiliary verbs between Korean and Burmese. But there were similar forms in own Burmese language. That's why, the final result of contrast of two languages is that 19 Burmese auxiliary verbs are similar to Korean ones. By the result, 11 auxiliary verbs of Burmese are similar to Korean ones in the form of "V1/final endings/V2(auxiliary)" among 19. It also shows the characteristic of Burmese auxiliary verb form.
In chapter 4, this study contrasted Korean "아/어 주다" and Burmese "pe: θi-". Firstly, this study contrasted the characteristics of grammatical forms and semantical forms of Korean and Burmese auxiliary verb system. The result was, in Korean auxiliary verb system performs "V1/final endings/V2(auxiliary)" style. But Burmese auxiliary verb system performs "V1/V2(auxiliary)" style. It shows that in Korean, it needs "final endings" between main verb, V1 and auxiliary verb, V2 to connect and perform as an auxiliary sentence. But in Burmese language, the main verb, V1 and the auxiliary verb, V2 connects directly without putting any endings between them. This is the evident difference of grammatical form between Korean and Burmese auxiliary verb system. Then, this study contrasted the usage of auxiliary verbs between two language by dividing two parts. First is the similar usage of two languages. Second is the different usage of two languages. In the first situation, 82 examples were given by showing similarities of Korean and Burmese. In the second situation, 29 examples were given by showing the explanations of the difference between two languages. As result, there are 3 kinds of conditions that are different to each other in Korean and Burmese auxiliary verb system. First, "Action verb/ 아/어 주다". Second, "Quality verv / 아/어 주다", and "active/passive/ 아/어 주다". Among this 3 conditions, the most different one to each language is the form of "Action verb/ 아/어 주다". It shows that there are important point to be careful to teach Korean auxiliary verb system to Burmese students. Because the most regular form of "Action verb/ 아/어 주다" is the highest one to be different to each language. It means that there were several (action) verbs in Korean and Burmese that can not use as auxiliary sentence by using "아/어 주다".
