Through the grammar education, the learners investigate the principles of the grammar, develop their ability of critical and creative problem-solving, and come to love their own language and have attitudes to actively develop it. However, the grammar education in the present school field depends only on the one-way, introducer-led methods, therefore, making the learners consider the grammar as a boring knowledge that gives no choice but memorizing it. This present situation suggests the necessity of the grammar education to proceed from the method of simple memorization to the method of active investigation about the grammatical phenomena and deduction of common principles from it. In accordance with this necessity, the present study confirmed the value of the dictionary as a language material for the teaching and learning of the grammar, and aimed to provide an inquiry-learning method for grammar education that utilizes the dictionary.
In chapter II, we analyzed the curriculum and the contents of the text books related to the utilization of the dictionary. The result of the analysis on the 2011 curriculum amendment showed that the contents standard for the dictionary utilization is not provided after the primary school education and the usage of the dictionary is being recommended only in the restricted areas involving the areas of part-of-speech information and so on. To demonstrate that the dictionary can be applied to broader areas of grammar education, in chapter III, we examined the grammatical information contained in the dictionary according to the segregated categories suggested by the school grammar system, including phonological information, morphological information, lexical information, syntactic information, semantic information, and the information from the norm of the written and spoken Korean language. For this examination, three dictionaries including 『The Korean Standard Dictionary』, 『Yonsei Contemporary Korean Dictionary』, and 『Korea University Korean Dictionary』 were compared and analyzed on how their descriptions about each grammatical area are distinguished.
In chapter IV, by directly applying the classification system from chapter III, we selected an educational content for each grammatical area, and developed an inquiry-learning method with which a learner can investigate the principles and rules of consonantal assimilation, verbal conjugation, idioms, valency of predicate, synonyms, and the orthography of Saisiot.
We expect that this study would provide the learners an opportunity to reconsider the Korean grammar as an object of research, instead of considering it just as a subject requiring memorization, and use the dictionary effectively as a source of grammatical information for their exploration of it.

문법 교육을 통하여 학습자들은 문법 원리를 탐구하고 비판적, 창의적 문제 해결 능력을 기르며 우리말을 사랑하고 국어를 발전시키는 데 능동적인 태도를 지니게 된다. 그러나 현재 학교 현장의 문법 교육은 교사의 일방적인 강의식 수업에 의존하고 있으며 학습자들 또한 문법을 암기해야 하는 따분한 지식으로만 받아들이고 있다. 따라서 문법 교육은 지식을 단순하게 암기하는 것이 아니라 문법 현상을 탐구하고 원리를 도출해 내는 방향으로 나아가야 한다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 문법 교수 ？ 학습을 위한 언어 자료로서 사전의 가치를 확인하고 학습 방법으로서의 탐구 학습의 필요성을 인식하여 이를 토대로 사전을 활용하여 문법 탐구 학습 방안을 마련하는데 그 목적이 있다.
먼저 Ⅱ장에서 사전 활용과 관련된 교육과정과 교과서 내용을 분석하였다. 2011 개정 교육과정을 기준으로 사전 활용 관련 내용을 분석한 결과 사전 활용과 관련된 내용 성취 기준이 초등학교 이후에는 제시되지 않았고, 교과서 학습 활동의 경우에도 품사 정보 등 한정된 영역에서만 사전 이용을 권장하고 있었다. 그러나 보다 다양한 문법 영역에서 사전 활용 교육이 가능하다는 것을 밝히기 위해 Ⅲ장에서는 사전이 가지고 있는 문법 정보를 학교문법의 체계를 기준으로 음운 정보, 형태 정보, 어휘 정보, 통사 정보, 의미 정보, 국어 어문 규범 정보로 나누어 살펴보았다. 그 과정에서 『표준국어대사전』과 『연세 현대 한국어사전』, 『고려대 한국어대사전』을 대상으로 하여 세 사전의 기술이 문법 영역별로 어떠한 차이점을 보이는지 비교 ？ 분석하였다.
이어서 Ⅳ장에서는 Ⅲ장에서 분류한 체계를 그대로 적용하여 각각의 문법 영역에 해당하는 대표적인 학습 내용을 한 가지씩 선정하였다. 이에 따라 자음 동화, 용언의 활용, 관용어, 서술어의 자릿수, 유의어, 사이시옷 표기법을 사전과 같은 언어 자료를 이용하여 그 원리와 규칙을 탐구할 수 있도록 하는 탐구 학습 방안을 마련하였다.
본 연구를 통해 학습자들이 그동안 지루한 암기과목으로만 생각해오던 국어 문법을 탐구의 대상으로 삼고 그 과정에서 사전의 문법적 정보를 유용하게 활용할 수 있는 계기가 되기를 기대해본다.
