This research determines that marriage based immigrants need a Korean Language Curriculum to perform a role as parents, and conducted requirement analysis for parents to smoothly educate for school aged children’s school life guidance and do a role as parents. Recognizing that marriage based immigrants cannot continuously learn Korean due to several situations including birth, housework and job and have a big difficulty as parents after children grow up and go to school, the main body of this suggests a Korean language curriculum plan for children’s school life guidance which can be a solution.
On a thesis background, we classify marriage based immigrants’ Korean language education into special purposed Korean language and examined education curriculum plan procedure accordingly. To understand learner’s requirement is a basis of planning education curriculum, and it can be known through learner’s requirement analysis. Requirement analysis is a process of defining learner’s educational requirement and determining priority of educational requirements, and is generally used survey, self-examination, interview, group meeting, observation method, language data collection, task analysis and case research for type of data collections at the stage of requirement research. Also, meaning and plan procedure of task based syllabus have been examined.
An advanced research has separately examined as Korean language education curriculum development research for marriage based immigrants’ children, marriage based immigrants’ children education plan research and teaching and learning method pattern research and marriage based immigrants’ children education data development research. In addition, what the marriage based immigrants need for children education especially school life guidance has been checked based on 2 types of guidance books such as ‘pit a pat, first day of school’ of Korean Health Family Promotion Association which is a school life guidance book developed now and ‘2013 guide for parents of multicultural family’ by Yeoju Office of Education Support.
The result of the survey overwhelmingly shows that most of marriage based immigrants think that their Korean language ability is insufficient when they teach their children and this insufficiency of Korean language influence their children’s learning ability. Many respondent said that the reasons why education program or efforts has not been helpful for children’s school life guide are ‘because of difference contents of book and material and real education situation’ and ‘because of insufficiency of application in reality despite of understanding what the teacher taught’. In other words, materials and educational situation are different and shortage of applying to real situation takes up most opinions. The survey result that there are some difficulties in real situation to educate children despite having reading materials and taking lessons showed that systematic Korean Language education curricula and programs for children education are definitely required.
With regard to necessity of Korean education curriculum for school aged children’s school life guide the answer of ‘very necessary’ is absolute, and in regard to whether participating a Korean language education program for children education the answer of participating takes a high rate.
The highest rank which marriage based immigrants think importance tasks is ‘reading and responding to children notification’ and there are ‘reading and responding to letters to parents’, reading and commenting on children card’, ‘admission consulting for children with children’s teacher’ and ‘consulting on children’s characteristic with children’s teacher’ as answers. According to it, it seems that high neccessary section for marriage based immigrants is a task of communication with teachers. Upper grades children’s parents generally answer lowly on each task and it is because marriage based immigrants rather get used to their role as parents as their children become upper grades compared to lower grades than think education for these tasks are not necessary.
Korean language teacher shows high necessity of ‘communication with teachers’ same as the survey by marriage based immigrants. Requirement for tasks between Korean language teacher and marriage based immigrants are not same but generally similar. Through result of the requirement and statistical analysis with survey it is affordable to see priority of tasks in accordance with task necessity of marriage based immigrants and Korean language teacher in case of children education.
Marriage based immigrants’ Korean language ability and the age of first child seem to influence the task necessity for conducting school aged children’s school life guide and a role of parents. Regarding Korean language ability, all tasks are not meaningful, but it is still meaningful because 5 items distinctlyshowstheeffectwithtasknecessity.
