Through the investigation of the Korean dictionaries, It is shown that the same forms which are same or similar in meaning are used as prefixes in one hand, and as noun, determiner and adverb etc in another hand, and as the fore-words in the compounds. Thus, I set up the criteria which distinguish root and prefix, bring out the scope of prefix distinctly. The list of the prefixes discussed in this is based on what is included in the korean standard unabridged dictionary published at the national academy of the korean language in 2008 as the web dictionary, I study 82 prefixes of native words.
I set up three criteria to judge the kinds of these forms. One is semantic discrimination that the morphemes which have the same meaning should be counted as the same types of morphemes. The second is morphological discrimination that the forms can be used as free or bound forms. The last criterion is phonological discrimination that If a sound is added when the combination of two morphemes become to a word. Based on these, I analysed the 82 native prefixes. As a result, the 59 forms must be counted as prefixes, but the 23 forms as roots.
