This study aims at creating the method and content of compound noun education to enhance the ability to use Korean and increase vocabulary. This is based on the critical awareness that vocabulary education has not had no meaning to learners because vocabulary education was only focused on understanding and it was difficult to teach because it was general that countless vocabularies couldn't be grammaticalized.
The significance of teaching Korean compound nouns is as follows. First, it enables vocabulary expansion by applying its formative principles to various examples. Second, it can effectively interpret the meanings of compound words. Third, it enables one to freely expresses their thoughts and feelings when communicating by using various vocabulary.
To realize above educational meaning of compund noun, I explained the composition and characteristics of compound noun. And for the characteristic of compound noun, I explained both way of formal and semantic characteristics in chapter II.
In chapter Ⅲ, under the perception that compound education should be conducted based on the level of learners, the list of compound noun was made first. The compound noun list was divided into the list by level and the list by subject.
In chapter IV, I created the frame of teaching-learning based on the formal and semantic characteristics of compound noun. And I drew the principle of teaching-learning from two aspects of above characteristics and production. Also, I explained how to decide the proportion of understanding and production by level. And finally, to give the shape to the discussion, I created the model of teaching-learning and suggested the actual phased class course based on the teaching-learning principle which was drawn from my study.
