Mass-media is playing a very important role in the recent Korean education. Therefore this study analyzes the pros and cons of Mass-media, based on the analysis, and researches a problem of learning the lexicon in Korean education which uses Mass-Media, when a instructor uses it as a learning tool.
A Study examines the impact of the mass media to the learners of Korean in the first chapter. and the second chapter discusses the theories of correlations between acquisition of knowledge and memory and other media related theories.
In the third chapter, the study describes the mass media use habits of learners through surveys to identify and evaluate expectations for the mass media before the experiment.
The survey result shows that when students use Mass-media as a learning tool of Korean language, the efficiency of learning is lower than what students expect.
The main cause is that when a student watches Korea movies or soap-operas, active attitude of students become passive because of the story and splendid graphic on the screen.
Based on the survey result, this study experiments how soap-opera affects the effectiveness of Korean education in terms of acquisition of the lexicon to find out the role of Mass-Media in effective Korean education in chapter 4 and 5 .
One of the findings through experiment is that when a student who learned Korean language through mass-media encounter a situation which is similar to Korea soap-opera he/she watched, a student speaks the same dialogue which he/she learned from Korea soap-operas.
Also, this study finds out that a meaning of the lexicon can be standardized by the mass media learners watched.
Therefore when a teacher uses Korean soap-operas or movies as a learning material, a teacher uses various scenes of Korean soap-operas or movies as an example. In addition, the contextual meaning of communication between learners should not be standardized.
