The goal of this research is to study honorific word system in Korean grammar education for immigrant married women and facilitate correct use of honorific words in Korean language and effective communication skills to foster better interpersonal relationships. In particular, many previous researches analyzed and compared textbooks used in general universities and for immigrant married women. However, in this , textbooks used for immigrant married women were selected only to study how honorific word system is being presented in them in order to discover more effective instruction method.
In Chapter 2, idea of honorific word system in Korean language and how it is used in practice will be studied.
In Chapter 3, an elementary level Korean language textbook 4 for immigrant women - Korean Language (Elementary) for Immigrant Married Women, We are united in interest, love and harmony (Elementary), Korean Language for Immigrant Married Women (Elementary 1,2) and Social Integration Program (KIIP) (Elementary 1,2) will be selected to suggest honorific word system within the textbook. Then, conversation or suggestions texts within each unit and subject will be studied.
In Chapter 4, a class based on supplementary textbooks was proposed as a way of developing an alternative class method to traditional class instruction based on textbooks to teach honorific word system in Korea. In teaching honorific word system, diverse conversational situation is important as well as specific teaching method. In order to facilitate this, this proposed class methods that utilized multimedia system in addition to supplementary texts. Multimedia is important in inducing exposure to diverse conversational situations and supplementary textbooks are great for enabling elementary level students to develop interest in honorific system in Korean language that is not present in their language. Moreover specific study-teaching plans were proposed at the same time.
However, there is a tremendous lack of availability of Korean faculty and multimedia study sources that can be used as supplementary textbooks in instructional environment. First, teachers must have better understanding and right attitude in addition to ability with respect to new teaching method and educational system that could accommodate it should be made available. Most importantly, there should be on-going discussions on various teaching methods that are more effective and suitable for today's society.
