As an important part of the unit of korean language terms of address are used a lot in Korean’s daily life. Using appropriate and correct terms of address is more important than anything, for it reflects the social and cultural context and relationship between speaker and audience. But it is very difficult for Chinese Speakers to understand and use the terms of address as native speakers. Compared to other languages, terms of address in Korean Language is developed. Therefore, an education of terms of address is necessary, especially for the Chinese leaners who living in Korea for study or doing business.
This study intends to seek an effective way to make Chinese Korean language leaners to understand the characteristics of Korean terms of address and know how to use them. In order to improve the Chinese leaners’ communication ability, the characteristics of terms of address in Korean and Chinese Language are specifically discussed, and based on that the common points and the different points between Chinese and Korean terms of address are discussed. And then in order to grasp the awareness and the acquisition of the Korean terms of address and the requirements on the education of terms of address a investigation and analysis is implemented. On the base of the results of comparative research and the investigation a list of meaningful terms of address is extracted by using the standard of TOPIK’s grade level evaluation. At last based on the above discussion and the list of terms of address effective teaching methods on social and relational terms of address are proposed.
