이 연구에 목적은 국외로 한국어 교원의 진출이 활발해지고 있는 현 시점에서 국외로 파견되는 한국어 교원의 전문성을 제고하기 위하여 국외 파견 한국어 교원 연수 프로그램을 개발하는 데 있다.
이에 본 연구의 1장에서는 한국어 교원에 대한 연구들을 한국어 교원의 자질 및 자격 요건에 대한 연구, 한국어 교원 교육 연구, 교사 교육 모형과 내용에 대한 연구로 나누어 선행 연구를 살펴보았다. 2장에서는 국내에서 이루어지는 한국어 교원 교육의 체계와 국외에서 이루어지는 한국어 교원 교육의 체계 및 ‘국어기본법’에 대해 살펴보았으며 국외 한국어 교원 교육의 양적 발전과 질적 발전을 위해서는 국외로 파견되는 한국어 교원을 대상으로 하는 교원 교육이 반드시 선행되어야 함을 알 수 있었다. 3장에서는 기존의 국외 파견을 목적으로 이루어지고 있는 한국어 교원 교육 프로그램들의 특징을 살펴보고 프로그램의 분석해 본 결과 파견 전 현지 적응 및 실제적인 수업 준비를 가능하게 하는 교육 내용이 포함되어야 함을 확인하였다. 4장에서는 국외 파견 한국어 교원 교육 내용을 선정한 후 세종학당 파견 교원, 태국 현지 학교 파견 교원, 코이카 파견 교원 46명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 이를 통해서 국외 파견 교원으로서 가져야 할 자질, 파견 전 받고 싶은 교원 교육, 현지 활동 및 현지 상황에 대한 내용, 파견 후 필요하다고 생각되는 교원 교육 내용 등을 파악할 수 있었다. 5장에서는 4장의 결과를 바탕으로 연수의 대상자, 프로그램의 목적 및 목표, 교원 교육 방식, 교원 교육 내용, 교육 시수 등을 고려 사항으로 두고 국외 파견 한국어 교원 연수 프로그램을 설계해 보았다. 6장에서는 본고의 내용을 요약하고 앞으로의 연구 과제를 제시하였다.
본 논문은 전반적인 국외 한국어 교육 상황에 대해 파악해 보았다는 것과 실제 국외 교육 현장에 있는 파견 교원들의 요구를 최대한 반영하여 보다 실질적인 파견 전 한국어 교원 교육 연수 프로그램을 제시하였다는 측면에서 그 의미가 있다고 할 수 있다. 앞으로 파견 국가별 한국어 교육 현황을 반영한 심화된 파견 전 한국어 교원 연수 프로그램에 대한 다양한 연구가 진행되기를 기대한다.

This study aims to develop a training program for overseas Korean language teachers, whose numbers have been increasing in recent years, with the intent of increasing levels of professionalism.
The first Chapter consists of an examination and discussion of previous research on Korean language education, which can be divided into studies on the qualifications of and requirements for Korean language teachers, studies on the education of Korean language teachers, and studies on teacher training models and content.
In Chapter 2, the education systems for Korean language teachers offered both in Korea and overseas, and the ‘Framework Act on the National Language’ are examined, and the present need for a training program for the development of both the quantity and quality of Korean language overseas teachers is highlighted.
In Chapter 3, the characteristics of existing training programs for overseas Korean language teachers are examined, which leads to the confirmation that teacher training programs should include elements designed to help the teachers to prepare to adapt to local circumstances and to actual classes before they are sent abroad.
In Chapter 4, the questionnaire survey completed by 46 Korean language teachers who were sent to King Sejong Institute, a school in Thailand, and to KOICA, is presented. The survey, which was conducted after the selection of the educational contents for the overseas Korean language teachers, reveals the required qualifications of overseas Korean language teachers, their desired training program being sent abroad, their activities and circumstances while abroad, and the training which they consider necessary having been sent abroad.
In Chapter 5, based on the results presented in Chapter 4, a training program for overseas Korean language teachers is presented that focuses on the teachers to be trained, the purpose and objectives of the program, and the methods, contents, and training hours of the teacher training program.
In Chapter 6, the contents of this research are summarized and areas of potential future research tasks are presented.
The primary value of this study lies in its evaluation and presentation of the current state of Korean language education overseas, and in its presentation of a more practical training program for Korean language teachers which reflects the expressed desires and requirements of teachers much as possible. It is hoped that further research will be conducted on future in-depth training programs for Korean language teachers that reflect the specific circumstances in each country to which the Korean language teachers are to be deployed.
