The purpose of this study is how smart devices can be used for foreign learners who want to learn Korean. This study extracts essential characteristics of language learning from various constructivist learning theories and approaches. Particularly, this thesis emphasized the ways to develop Korean learning the application on the basis of the theories of constructivism and Communicative Language Teaching.
With ubiquitous age, we can utilize not only computers anytime, anywhere but also smart devices in which users add and delete applications as they want. The use of wireless technology and smart devices in education can affect learner motivation, communication skills, collaboration, teaching and learning styles.
The combination of Wi-Fi technology and a variety of smart devices have created and evolved a new form of learning, smart learning. Smart learning has an infinite and unlimited potential as a new education format since utilizing smart devices is getting popularized. Therefore, application of learning Korean through the smart devices is necessary to be considered as an effective learning tool or method in the current situation. For this study, learning application has been analyzed through a survey to verify achievement and satisfaction of the Korean language learner. The analysis shows that most applications for learning Korean are targeted at the beginners, especially, learning vocabulary and Korean alphabets.
Based on the results of survey analysis, Korean learner are asked to fill out a questionnaire about its educational effectiveness. All most students answered that established applications for learning Korean do not satisfy students' desires. That's because they just repeat words and don't provide sufficient feedback. But they wanted to continue to use a application of learning Korean through the smart devices in the future. It is need to develop various applications related to different levels, purposes and sections. In addition, high-quality contents are required to supports various language background learners and their own purposes for Korean language learning.
