The purpose of this study is to investigate difference in use of pronominal case in English by Korean young learners (age of 7) and middle school students (age of 16). The subjects for the study were Group A; 30 young learners who has been attending English focused kindergarten for about 3years and Group B; 30 middle school students who has been attending regular middle school with 4 times of English classes weekly for about 3years. A written test which consists of 5 different stories with various forms of pronominal case used was given to subjects to collect the data for the study.
The results are as follows:
The assumptions set up before the experiment were:
1. Despite of the ambiguity with using first person singular and plural pronominal cases in Korean, both group had no problems distinguishing first person singular and plural pronominal cases in English and using them right.
2. Both groups made more mistakes using second and third person pronominal case than first person pronominal cases.
3. Compared to accusative case and possessive case, nominative case was used correctly by both groups.
4. Group B showed less mistakes using different kinds of pronominal cases than Group A.
