Children of female marriage immigrant family grow under mother who are deficient in Korean language at their critical period so that their communication ability is inclined to be behind other children due to incorrect pronunciation and the acquirement of limited vocabularies. In this sense, this thesis puts the purpose in finding appropriate Korean education method by using listening and speaking centered education of traditional tales for improving the communication ability of these children.
In the first place, the present condition of multicultural families and the language condition of children were explored. Subsequently, the difference of traditional tales and creative tales was examined. This research attempted to elucidate that traditional tales that imply culture are more useful than creative tales for preschool children of multicultural families. In addition, it suggested the selection standards of traditional tales that are used for the education of Korean language by using「Blue fan, Red fan」, which is fit for the standards of selection.
Current distribution rate of multicultural families and the number of children were investigated. It was revealed that the number of children of multi-cultural families was evenly distributed across the country, and especially, many children resided in the large city where polarization of classes is severe. It demonstrated that preschool children of multicultural families are not gathered only in a particular region. Especially, language ability of preschool children in multicultural families was deficient in listening and speaking. Children could not give the reply appropriately because they did not understand the questions of others, and they had difficulty in speaking due to the lack of vocabularies.
Accordingly, it examined difference between traditional tales and creative tales in order to elucidate that traditional tale is the most useful education text of Korean language for improving the language ability of preschool children of multi-cultural families, and the appropriateness of traditional tale as the education text of Korean language was presented for improving the communication ability of preschool children of multicultural families.
The contents of traditional tales are succinct, and they are comprised of simple composition. Repetitive sentences, imitative words, mimetic words, and cultural contents are contained in this text. In addition, since opposite characters of good and evil appear in the story of traditional tales, traditional tales are appropriate texts for the education of listening and speaking based on easy contents for understanding.
Traditional tales as Korean texts of elementary school correspond to standards; imitative words, mimetic words, repeated sentence, short story, ethical contents, and life style of ancient people. This research presented various activities through integrative teaching model of listening, speaking, and literature, as well as practical instruction by utilizing「Blue fan and red fan」based on these standards.
