이 연구는 한국어를 학습하는 외국인들의 쓰기 학습 전략 사용에 관한 것이다. 학습 전략은 학습자의 교육, 문화적 배경 등 다양한 변인에 영향을 받을 수 있다. 이에 학습자를 언어권, 성별, 학습 기간으로 구분하였고 기존 여러 연구에서 타당성을 인정받은 Oxford(1990)의 The strategy Inventory for Language Learning(SILL)을 통하여 언어학습 전략의 사용 양상을 살펴보았다. 또한 어떤 전략이 학습자의 작문 능력을 예측해 줄 수 있는지를 보여주기 위하여 ‘갖고 싶은 직업’을 주제로 한 학습자의 쓰기 텍스트를 분석하였고 이 둘의 상관관계를 알아보았다.
본 연구에서 학습 요인에 따라 언어학습 전략의 사용 양상은 다르게 나타났으며, 전략을 많이 사용할수록 학습자의 쓰기 능력이 향상되었음을 알 수 있었다. 특히, 쓰기 능력은 사회적 전략, 인지 전략, 초인지 전략과 높은 상관성이 있음을 알 수 있었다.
이 연구를 통해 효과적인 언어학습 전략 사용은 학습자들을 성공적인 언어학습자로 이끌어 줄 수 있으며, 언어 능력에 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 전략은 가르쳐질 수 있기 때문에, 전략 훈련과 언어 학습을 통합시킨 교수법으로 O'Malley와 Chamot(1987)의 전략 훈련 모델 Cognitive Academic Language Approach(CALLA)을 통하여 쓰기 전략 교육 방안을 제시하였다.

The purpose of the study is to examine writing learning strategy of foreigners who learn the Korean language. Learning strategy can be influenced by learners' education, cultural background and other variables. Learners were classified depending upon language zone, gender and learning period. Oxford(1990)'s the strategy Inventory for Language Learning(SILL) that many studies admitted of appropriateness was used to investigate use of language learning strategies. And, the study investigated a learner's writing text with subject of "job that I want to have" to forecast learners' writing ability by strategy and to examine correlation.
In this study, use of language learning strategy varied depending upon learning factors, and learners who made use of many strategies could improve writing ability. In particular, writing ability had high correlation with social strategy, cognitive strategy and meta-cognitive strategy.
In this study, effective language learning strategy could help learners learn language successfully to have influence upon learners' linguistic ability. Strategies could be taught. Therefore, the study suggested writing strategy education method by strategic education model of Cognitive Academic Language Approach (CALLA) (O'Malley and Chamot (1987)) that integrated both strategic training and linguistic learning.
