사람들은 언제나 판단과 선택의 기로(岐路)에서 고민하고 갈등한다. 행여 그것이 찰나(刹那) 일지라도 그 상황 속에서 만큼은 최선의 선택이길 바라는 것이다. 왜, 우리는 선택적인 상황 속에서 고민하고 갈등하는 것일까? 그것은 더 나은 생활을 찾아 인간다운 삶을 영위하기 위함이다. 그러한 삶을 이끌어 나가기 위해서는 어떠한 수단을 필요로 할 것이며 본 연구자는 그 수단을 진로교육에서 찾고자 하였다.
직업의 종류가 점차 다원화, 전문화 되어 가고 있지만 학교 교육에서는 이러한 변화에 발맞추어 나갈 진로교육이 미흡한 것이 사실이다. 따라서 학생들의 소질과 능력을 찾아 그 능력을 극대화 시킬 수 있게 이끌어 주는 진로를 위한 교육이 절실히 요구된다.
본 연구는 학생들의 적성과 흥미를 고려한 미술교육을 통해 올바른 진로를 탐색할 수 있도록 지도하는 것을 목적으로 하며 특히, 예술계 고등학교 미술전공 10학년(고1) 학생들의 전공 선택이 어떻게 효율적으로 지도되어야 할 것인가에 대한 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 연구방법으로는,
첫째, 진로교육의 개념과 진로발달이론을 통해 진로교육에 대한 중요성을 인식하였으며 발달이론을 바탕으로 고등학생들의 진로발달 단계는 어떠한지 살펴보았다.
둘째, 제7차 교육과정을 통해 고등학교 미술교육과 진로교육에 대해 알아보고 이에 관한 해외 교육 사례는 어떠한지 살펴보았다.
셋째, 이를 참고로 하여 예술계 고등학교의 적합한 진로지도 방안을 모색하고 이에 따른 미술교사의 역할에 대해 제시하였다.
넷째, 고등학생들의 미래를 위한 미술관련 진로 정보와 전망을 알아보았다.
제7차 교육 과정은 초등학교 1학년부터 10학년(고1)까지 10년을 국민 공통 기본 교육 기간으로 정하고 11, 12학년(고2, 3학년)에서는 학생의 희망 진로에 따라 학생들의 과목을 선택하게 되어있다. 특히, 예술계 고등학교에서는 학생들의 소질과 적성에 맞는 적합한 전공 선택하여야 하기 때문에 이를 어떻게 지도할 것인지 철저한 준비가 따라야 한다. 그러나 많은 학교에서는 이러한 문제들에 관한 구체적인 대안과 실행이 미흡한 상태이며, 이에 본 연구자는 10학년(고1)의 전공 선택을 위해 진로지도 프로그램을 학교의 교육계획안에서 참고하고자 하였다.
그 방법으로 재량활동과 특별활동을 통해 진로교육을 실시하는 것이 효과적이라 판단하게 되었다. 재량활동으로는 창의적 재량활동을 통해 미술과 학생들의 각 전공별 관심과 자신의 특성을 이해하는 것으로 전공이 자신의 적성에 맞는지 학생 스스로 판단하고 결정하도록 지도하고자 하였으며, 특별활동으로는 계발활동과 행사활동을 통해 학생 자신의 취미에 따라 소질에 맞는 전공은 어떤 분야인가를 몸소 체험해 보도록 하는 시간을 갖기를 희망하였다.
한국의 고등학교 교육은 세계 수준이라고 해도 과언이 아니지만, 학생의 적성과 흥미를 고려한 진로를 위한 교육은 최하위 수준일 것이다. 전문교육보다는 대학입시를 위해 공부하는 학생들이 많고 학교에서도 학생 유치를 위해 대학진학률로 은근히 홍보하는 학교도 있다. 요즈음 같이 대학졸업을 해도 취업이 되지 않은 상황에서 이러한 교육은 분명 많은 문제점을 가진다 할 수 있다. 21세기의 정보화 시대에 맞춰 다양한 진로 확보 방안을 마련해 준다면 일류대를 나오지 않더라도 능력에 따라 직업선택이 이루어질 것이고, 그에 상응한 대우도 받는다면 일류대학 진학보다는 자신의 잠재적 능력을 개발하려는 분위기가 확산되지 않을까 기대해 본다.

People are in agony and conflict at the forked-road of judgement and choice. How short the moment is, people wish they chose the best selection in the situation. Why do people get worried and complicated in the situation of choice? That is because they pursue a better life, life worthy of humankind. Such life might need a means, and the researcher tried to find the means out of course guidance.
The kind of vocation is gradually being pluralized and specialized, nevertheless it is for sure that the course guidance schools offer keeping step with it is insufficient. Therefore education for course guidance is urgently needed in order to find out students' temperament and ability to maximize it.
The purpose of this study is to guide students to proper course through arts education taking their aptitude and interest into account. Especially it groped for a plan of efficient guidance for 10th graders(arts high school 1st graders) majoring in fine arts when they choose their major.
Followings are the method of research ;
First, the importance of course guidance was recognized through the concept of course guidance and the theory of course development. The step of high school students' course development was examined based on the development theory.
Second, the arts education and course education in high schools, and also relevant cases of overseas education, were investigated through the 7th curriculum,
Third, with reference to it, a plan of course guidance fit to arts high school was groped for and the role of arts teacher was presented.
Lastly, future information and perspective of arts related course for high school students were investigated.
The 7th curriculum prescribes that 10 year from 1st grade to 10th grade(high school 1st grade) is the national common basic education period and 11th and 12th graders(high school 2nd graders) choose subjects according to the course they want. Especially arts high school should prepare how to guide thoroughly since the major to choose must be fit to students' temperament and aptitude. Many schools, however, are short of a concrete alternative and execution. Accordingly the researcher herself referred to school curriculum and the course guide program for the sake of 10th graders'(high school 1st graders) selection of major.
As for a method, it was estimated effective to perform the course education through discretional activity and extracurricular activity. Students of arts department understand their own interest in each major and characteristics through discretional activity, especially creative discretional activity. It is designed to guide students to judge and decide by themselves if a certain major is fit to their aptitude. Extracurricular activity including developmental activity and event activity is designed to let students to experience which major is fit to their own taste or aptitude.
It is not too much to say that Korean high school education is on global level, but the course education considering students' aptitude and interest must be on the lowest rank. Most students study just for university entrance examination, not for professional reason. There are also schools that promote courteously with the percentage admitted to university for inducing students. In these days when it is difficult to be employed even after graduation from university, such education must hold lots of problems. If various plans for securing course are prepared corresponding to the age of informatization in 21st century, job choice according to ability will be possible without graduation from prestigious colleges. If corresponding salary is also followed, the atmosphere for developing potential ability, rather than entering prestigious universities, might be spreaded.
