Recently, as the number of immigrant women to the Korea increases due to international marriages, they face with the different environment, culture and language. Hereby, various problems arise for immigrant women and their children. The most serious problem is the communication issue. The lack of communication not only poses several problems for the immigrant women, it but also causes a severe handicap to their children as well. It is important for these women to adjust themselves to the new life in Korea and become a member of Korean society, but above all, Korean language training system needs to be put in place for them and their children. So, for the women who have immigrated to Korea by an international marriage, a questionnaire was performed for the purpose of checking their Korean-ability and their computer usage ability. Based on the questionnaire research, a Korean language training plan is suggested with the computer application in the way fit for their background and characteristic as a solution for their urgent communication problem.
Based on the research, it is possible to divide the immigrant women into two groups. One group is Korean-Chinese with Chinese citizenship who can basically speak Korean; the other group is the immigrant women from Southeast Asia and other parts of the world. There is a big difference between the two women groups in their communication abilities. In case of the immigrants with Chinese citizenship, they speak a dialect and use a distinct choice of words. For the rest of the immigrant women, first of all, they have difficulty in communication itself and communication with their children in terms of education.
Both groups have a common point in that they enjoy watching Korean dramas, and understand what are going on to some extent. Hence, Korean drama-style programs would be effective for Korean language training. Furthermore, the utilization of computer or cell phone for education becomes an effective way for the immigrant women to learn the Korean language since they can not be involved in a lot of social activities. This results in being familiar with how to use computer. If they are able to use the cell phone or Internet to get help for themselves, this will make them overcome overall problems such as the difficulty in learning the Korean language or their general communication barrier.
This thesis suggests an implantation method of the system with computer utilization in order for immigrant women to be able to master the Korean language fast and conveniently. If Korean audiovisual materials with Korean subtitles are uploaded on the web board, immigrant women can select what they need from the site menu and learn the Korean language. Moreover, those immigrant women, who cannot speak Korean at all, can select an icon that represents a certain subject and eventually clicking one will allow them to be able to take a lesson in the Korean language. Finally, implementation method integrated with a word processor, which allows learner to hear, speak, read and write spontaneously by using both audiovisual and text, is also suggested. This program is designed for learner to be able to do study fit for her level, to do study which can be applied in real life, to maximize the effect of the language training, and to help herself in real life, and is also considered for the educator to be able to update the programs in real time.
