The paussine genus Itamus Schmidt-G?bel (Coleoptera: Carabidae) is distributed in Oriento-Australian Regions. It is composed of three valid species:I. castaneus Schmidt-G?bel 1846 has a wide distribution,occurring in China (Guangdong),Myanmar,India,Sri Lanka, Thailand,Laos and Vietnam (Tonkin); I. dentatus Andrewes,1919 in China (Guangxi) and Vietnam (Tonkin); and I. cavicola (Moore),1978 endemic to New Ireland Island,Papua New Guinea.
