Abstract:Against the general background of globalization, cultural exchange among countries has been on the rise. As a particular form of culture, films are playing an increasingly important role in transferring values, ideas and information of a particular culture. Subtitle can give the audience an access to the foreign language and its culture. As a new field of translation, the study of film subtitle translation is attracting more and more attention. This thesis views subtitle translation as intercultural communications, and the translator should take on a new role of “cultural mediator”. Applying the Skopostheorie to “translate culture” in subtitle translation, this study aims at improving the strategies of adequate translation in terms of cultural information transfer in subtitling. The author is hoping to raise the awareness of cultural information in subtitle translation on the part of translators, so they can focus on the connections between culture and translation. As a vital part of human communication, language plays a similar role in translation. In translation some special words that are connected with culture present themselves in different contexts and thus bear special connotation. In the thesis, the subtitle translation practice from the cultural perspective is presented. Among these, the translation of puns and the translation of humor that are culture-related are not only different but also challenging. Finally it should be stated again that culture is really a field full of miseries and not easy to explore. However, subtitle translation is so popular nowadays and plays a very important role in this information age. To enhance the cultural exchange it is strongly recommended that we focus more attention on subtitle translation study from a cultural perspective. 中文摘要:在全球化趋势影响下,各国间的文化交流日益繁多。作为一种文化产品,电影对文化传播的作用越来越明显,配以字幕翻译的影视作品更是能直接传递外来文化。字幕翻译作为一门新兴的翻译领域,越来越受到关注。 本文认为电影字幕翻译的目的是跨文化交际,译者扮演着“文化中介者”的角色。在“目的论”的指导下,字幕翻译的主要目的便是在时间和空间的制约下,向处在特定文化背景下的观众最有效地传达最相关的信息,实现其作为影视和观众交流的“桥梁”作用。 本文旨在引起更多人对英语电影字幕翻译中文化信息的的关注,分析了文化和翻译的相关之处,论述了翻译中语言和翻译间的紧密关联,总结了翻译过程中的文化现象,涉及的文化因素,最终有效地完成跨文化交流。 作者更是从实践角度进行论证。对于影视对白的翻译,从文化的角度出发,结合具体影片,进行了一般性个例的探讨,还对字幕翻译中的难点,即双关语的翻译和幽默语言的翻译作了简单的探讨。 结论中指出,文化领域的确是复杂多样,难以面面俱到地论述。但是,字幕翻译手段已成为文化传播的重要大众媒介。仅有语言的表层表述,不能完全挖掘文化内涵,因而也就不能达到文化内涵,促进文化传播的目的。鉴于影视媒体的重要性,从文化角度进行字幕翻译应该受到重视的。 关键词:字幕翻译;文化;目的论;交流 |
