Abstract:This paper focuses on the definition, the function, the present study and the classification of repetition. Likewise, the different attitudes toward repetition in Chinese and English are introduced in this paper. Meanwhile, more attention has been paid to the corresponding translation strategies about repetition in Chinese and English. At the same time, by illustrating and analyzing examples, it provides a series of translating strategies about repetition. The aim of this thesis is to provide some knowledge about repetition and its translation in Chinese and English. Keywords: repetition; translation; Chinese and English
中文摘要:本文通过阐述重复的定义及分类,从汉英两种语言对重复的不同理解入手,探讨重复在英语和汉语两种语言中的应用。文章指出,在处理有关重复的翻译问题时,不仅需要考虑到汉英民族不同的思维方式和文化背景,同时还需考虑到两种语言的表达习惯。最后,文章通过举例分析得出了相应的翻译策略。本篇论文的目的旨在探讨重复在汉英翻译中的运用及其相应的翻译策略。 关键词:重复;翻译;汉英
As it is known, Chinese and English have certain differences in language expressions. English uses ellipsis and substitution to keep from repetition of the same word. In other words, repetition tends to be avoided in English. On the contrary, repetition appears frequently in Chinese. For example, to avoid too many pronouns, which may lead to difficulty in understanding, there is always repetition of the same word in Chinese. Repetition exists in both languages, although there are two completely different attitudes towards it in Chinese and English. What this article proves is: when a translator deals with source language that involves repetition, he should take into consideration the different mental patterns and cultural backgrounds, at the same time, he should correspond with the different conventions in expression between Chinese and English. When doing translation, a translator should consider when the repetition is necessary and when unnecessary, so careful handling is required in the process of translation. |
